I believe that pirating in darkfall could be abused, Darkfall devs mention city guards and a community that polices itself, but with one guild ruling the oceans, how can anyone else compete? Account has been stolen, why would someone want to steal my account? |

Live with it. That's one of the risks of having a game like this. __________________________________________________ |

That said, it is easier for smaller guilds to get together, if they have a top guild to aim for. And why should habors be overrun ? You could probably place more cannons and men on land compared to a water vessel ? --- |

Lets say that a Guild gets pretty rich and starts making the best armory in the game and kills everyone that have worse equipment!
Everything in a game can become an abuse, remember that there will always be another strong guild to fight the strong guild. Thats what makes games fun, challenge. |

I guess so, in the end it would be everyone v the strong guild so we would get a foothold pretty fast :) Account has been stolen, why would someone want to steal my account? |

ok 2 things.
by the time said guild has made a "****load of boats" then there will be so many ports (with player defenders) that it would be near impossible to destroy them all.
and why cant we all live in fear for once? MMO wish list: -Changeable worlds |

It's not a flaw, it's a feature. It's working as designed. And yes, this type of gameplay is exactly what can happen with this type of design, which is why it won't be a megahit. If I was going to play, this is exactly what I would attempt to do. corner a section of the game. Have virtually uncontested control of an area or resource and smack down competitors through brute force or financial resources. I virtually did exactly this in SWG when I was a merchant power broker. I had a staff of up to 26 entertainers employed (real players) and paid them salary to harvest power. I paid them well and used the profits to eventually dominate that industry. Of course anybody else could still harvest, but I was dominant. I excerted merchant PVP and then continually bought out all vendors I could find (even taking a loss on some purchases) just to control the power.... then I doubled the price of power overnight. That put most other power brokers out of business or made them defacto employees of mine. I think I may have lost 1 customer because it was still easier paying my prices and finding stock (I usually had 30-50 million units available) than hunting all the vendors for a few bits of power (which I often cleaned out daily). Unless of course you harvested your own, but then you were merely a lowly, inconsequential player to my galactic mega-powercorp. And who said an entertainer can't whoop some serious PVP action. Merchant PVP is fiercer than any combat pvp and actually takes some brains and strategy. Not that combat can't require those, but mostly that's just button mashing and macros. Financial warfare IS pvp. And the game was working as designed.even though nobody actually saw it as a financial pvp game. Damn, I guess i do like pvp after all ~DingoBoi (Corporate Carebear)

Originally posted by Sam123jo0123Ok.. a few points why your scenario is far off. As much as the devs said you need 8 hours to cross the world running.. so lets guess how long will you need to drive around the main continent with your ship? Circumference is 2*pi*r or 2*pi*8hours.. and even if you assume that the cruising speed is around 10times as high as running.. you would need a lot of time to drive around, not to speak to patroul. Can you even guess how much ships you will need, how large you clan have to be? Sorry, but your scenario is with such a huge world just unrealistic. To control a part of this world is a complete other story, and it may happen. |

I see this as a game feature. Is not bad. You can be the guild leader of this guild so you will become a Sea King in a virtual world. Awesome in my opinion. -=AlaKraM=- |

The main idea behind roots of MMORPG and sandbox gameplay at all is players developed virtual world. So this is not an abuse but feature. Players that do not like that idea typicaly like EQ2 and WoW idea that is exactly opossite to sandbox: you just start from point A have to pass through point B and reach point C. |
