I just bought an 8800GTSE 512meg board.  I hear the game is runny very chunky on this board for some reason.  Is there a patch in the works to address this?

not sure i'll resub til I start hearing that issues with this board are fixed.

anyone know?

Thanks Nadia

I just downloaded the nVidia beta drivers build 174.74.  Looks like there were some performance tweaks done for DX9 and OpenGL games.  There are a few builds since the WHQL in december.

do you know if anyone or yourself have tried anything other than the dec. WHQL drivers?

I subbed, I'm gonna log in and see how the WHQL drivers function and if need be I'll go with the beta drivers.

I may be in a different situation then the common 8800 owner.  I just purchased the newer 8800 GTSE 512 meg which is a G92 chipset and has the same number of stream processors as the 8800 GTX.

at any rate, I'll be sure to post my findings here and on the official forum

its an issue with the 8800's.  AFIAK all of the other nVidia boards work fine.

shadows, like many other graphic objects, are CPU controlled, not GPU.  In this game, it is more important to have a good CPU than a GPU for some stupid ass reason.

Live Update 44 made some changes, and offers a smoother gameplay experience.

If you have more than 2 gigs, you get a texture boost thanks to a large memory pool code change

The 8800's can be configured with the latest drivers (the 174's) and to render 1 frame or zero frames ahead to reduce and eliminate stutter, freezes, etc.

This game turned into a new ball game thanks to this change.

I use an 8800GT (based on the G92) and it is running so much better (more area's hitting a beautiful 60FPS) and shadows can be turned on without major issues...

Hooray

I also run the 8800GT (with the new beta drivers and the directX 10 hack for XP) and have seen little to no issues.

Don't confuse a players ability, with a class being Over Powered.

Semper Fi

Just a confirmation post.

I'm playing with 8800 Ultras, and with updated drivers and some tweaking with the shadows and flora, the game runs smooth as a babies arse. Not that I go around feeling baby butt to compare things to or anything...

Still wish I could max everything out after putting $3,000+ of parts into a system, but I'm pretty that even NASA's supercomputer can't max out EQ2's graphics... yet.

Existence is random!

I have the 8800 GTS 640MB board on XP with 3Gb of ram. The game runs OK for me with no actual crahes or obvious glitches, but I still can't use the higher quality settings without things slowing down too much.

The difference in frame rate between 'High Quality' & 'High Performance' isn't that even that much, which seems to confirm all the comments about too much EQ2 being handled by the CPU rather the graphics card.

I upgraded my graphics card & memory last year, but my machine is about 4 years old now & although it was good in it's day I guess my CPU must be starting to show it's age.

It's still a great game to play though & the only real problem I have with how it looks is the lack of variety in armour & clothing styles, but SOE are allegedly working on an model upgrade that will make creating new styles much easier.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
