Not really "open" if it will only be for premium FP subscribers. I may not even buy the game if AoC wont give open beta it's true open-ness. Still mixed views on the game in my eyes ATM. |

Well i wouldn't be surprised if they try that beta for subscribers thing. Potbs did that on fileplanet and right after they opened it to subscribers they opened to everyone and all you had to do is register. Really pissed off alot of people who subscribed just to try out the game. This game has alot more people waiting to try it though so I doubt that will happen here but I'll keep checking just in case.

WAR is doing exactly the same thing. Meaning a Beta with limited space where you have to register and get approved for a key. So it seems to be not so uncommon. |

looks a lot like fileplanet subscribers will again get a beta access before the real open beta (if there will be any real open beta), happened in so many MMOs in the last years so nothing really big. I was in quite a few betas in the past and sometimes pre FP stage sometimes after when the open beta gates were opened. And from my personal experiences I question the usefullness of these Fileplanet testers for bug finding. Most of them just download the beta and see it as a trial many of them probably won't even look at the forums and post any bugs or feedback. But i guess the game companies see it more as a stresstest before going real open beta (to see if the servers are ready from stability point). Anyway i personally think selecting a big group thats active in the game community would probably produce more bug reports. On the feedback its a bit mixed, too many fanboys that just praise the devs and attack anyone that gives negative feedback can hurt a game a lot too (see vanguard). in closed vg beta there were times when aprox 90% of beta population did not log in anymore, but on forums everyone that posted anything about the game not being fun was getting attacked by the Vanboys ( everything Brad does is great... you can see that now). I think the beta survey they devs did when they noticed that many beta people were not even logging in or bothering to post on forums saved vanguard from being much more a failure (but the changes came too late when they did not have enough time and money anymore).

Would be worst idea ever Funcom. Torrent is the way to go.
Open Beta is nothing but hype and extra money. The game has to be ready for open beta. There is no testing anymore. The hype of WoW was so ridiculous that the open beta keys where sold for 100+ Euro on ebay.

The only company who did it right was Turbine. They sold the trial for 1.50 Euro on DVD in ths shops.
