I am looking for a game the wife and I can play together.   Things weve tried and failed.

WOW and COH - she doesnty like shoot em up games.

Sims - Bored me to tears,  didnt  seem to have any goals or purpose.

My thought is we need something based in a reality women would like but with some goal orientation I would enjoy.   Not to intense so we dont completely ignore our children.

Please help!

I would try EQ2. I enjoyed it when I played it. I have yet to find a MMORPG that my wife likes.

It has:

Housing

Lots of quest that are fun

You can Duo well with any two classes (I think)

Do you like crafting?,   theres some games about crafting, like "A tale in the desert".

What about "puzzle pirates"?

What about buy a bunch of adventure games/singleplayer games (like monkey island, indiana jones, etc), you can team with your wife to complete these games.

Or do something else than gamming.

i would say give eq2 or lotro a shot, either one has both solo play, high end group content and many other features, housing, lore , etc

I appreciate the attempt to help. Are you guys married?

All those games are the same to most women.  D&D grindfests.

I am looking for something not set in a fantasy world (like sims or at least a more female friendly setting like puppies or flowers - lol) but with goals and strategy (unlike sims).

I might be looking for something that doesnt exist.

Damn, i came here to suggest CoX, since i know alot of female players who enjoy it, and it's an easy game to duo in. But since that's already been tried, i'd say pick up some coop games instead, either for a console if you have any of those, or simply just some coop PC games.

I would really suggest "LOTRO".  Choose hobbits, the quests in the shire are hardly  "bloody" and quite engaging and fun, also, choose an RP server I really can recommend the European RP Server Laurelin.

Depends on her taste really. And D&D Grindfest doesn't say me much..

My finaceé loves Lineage 2 as an example. So yarr..

Even though it's a somewhat grind game. I suggest Perfect world.

It's free (which i guess doesn't really matter) Gorgeous grafics. Cute avatars. Quest based (It's called the c hinese wow) Player housing exactly like The sims :p

Characters customisable over the top. Never noticed any kind of crafting though..

Ah well.. Worth a shot anyhow aye?

Hello Kitty Online?

Takes a real man to play that game, although due to it's target demographic I don't know if it would be a good thing to be considered the best player on the server.

As a game wife, I'd like to try to help, but I seem to be an odd woman to begin with. I didn't even know what an MMO was until I met my husband, and he was just out of beta for Dark Age of Camelot in 2002. Being a medieval reenactor/live steel combatant, I took to this game easily. Our kids grew up with this and they love it as much as we do. But times have changed and the community turned from "hey, do you guys want to group again?" to "sure, dude... all the guys call their bot 'wife'..." Anyway... there were a few games we tried that were "cute." Rose I think was one of them, and that was a skill/level system if I remember. There was one where you could fish and hold hands and stuff, can't remember the name of that one. Rubies of Eventide was pretty cute, but I'm not sure if that's still around. We even played Matrix which he loved, but me not so much and it's kind of an altered reality. He also likes Voyage Century and I had fun sailing my ship around exploring the map. Back then there was only a handful of games to choose from, and now there are just too many to decide, and many are the same thing with a different name. Good luck in your search

I am a female player and my first mmorpg was Guild Wars. I loved it from the first moment. i am still playing it while I am waiting for Age of Conan to come out.

Guild Wars is a nice game to try and no monthly fees are required. :)

Ill second the motion. Guild Wars is a very good game. In my guild alone I would say 50% of it are women. Recommend buying the Platinum edition or Nightfall first.

Give Ultima online a go, i know a fair few married couples who play and they enjoy the freedom the game has.

It pretty much has anything you can think of, housing, huge amounts of indepth crafting, templates that are only limited by your imagination.

Skills women tend to go for most commonly in UO tends to be the tailoring and animal taming, they have to look good riding on that unicorn, us gents enjoy taming too, but we like our dragons.

Beware though, if this game gets you, your be there for a long time, there are many 10yr vets running around, and dont think you cant compete with people who have been in game so long, UO gives you what you put it. ;)

The Wife and I have played a buttload of MMORPGs. The one we played the longest was Final Fantasy Online. After level 10, you basically need a group. The jobs are very compartmentalized, so one person heals, the other tanks, nukes, etc, etc. Combat does not move at a very fast pace, so you can socialize more. Because of the need for groupng, you meet a lot of cool people. Some people suck, yes, but people tend to remember jerks. Jerks have a hard time finding groups who will play with them. This makes for guilds where people actually converse with one another. It had no mentionable PvP (it was my wifes 1st mmo, so I dodn't wanna scare her to start with a bunch of 13 year olds zergin all th newbs).

It is grindy, but thats basically every game here in one way or another. You either grind quests or kills, but its the same thing in the end. It is really fun to have two people in a ground in the same room. Makes for some very effective groups. The social component makes it more fun then grinding away solo. I have not played in some time, and I have heard that the economy is currentl;y a bit off, so if it peaks you interest, ask some current players about the state of the game.

We've also played LotRO, EVE, DAoC, Horizons, WoW, Ultima Online,  might be others but I can't remember just yet. She plays WoW a lot when I cannot play games (because it's solo-friendly). As a CG artist, I don;'t get to play much anymore, hence why we put FFXI on ice.

If she just doesn't like combat, you might try getting ICQ and telling her its a game.
