In your opinion, which MMORPG feature has:

1) evolved the most, since the begining of the genre?

2) changed the least, since the begining of the genre?

3) changed (for the worse), since the begining of the genre?

Just to be clear, these are three answers for three DIFFERENT features.  I'll leave my answers out, because I don't want to "steer" the thread in any specific direction.

Evolved in a positive way? Probably economies and crafting. Although UO was great, look at what EVE and PotBS are economy-wise and what Vanguard is for crafting.

2) changed the least, since the begining of the genre?

Thing that has changed the least? Well.. We're still swinging swords and blocking with shields in almost every MMO we have so I'm going to go with timeframe MMOs take place in. There are a few sci-fi, I know. But not enough. And only a couple pirate ones :P

3) changed (for the worse), since the begining of the genre?

Grouping. Definitely. Grouping used to mean something in a MMO, it made players learn to PLAY in order to get to the highest level, or advance their skills in case of sandbox games. If you sucked, word got around and you didn't get groups so you didn't advance at all. Now you can just solo to the top in pretty much every MMO out (save FFXI and it's amazing grouping system). That really kills the immersion with games being on an epic scale with communities.

Red answers.

Graphicz, for obviouz reasonz.

2) changed the least, since the begining of the genre?

Combat. Most gamez is still usin’ da same combat model of "click target, activate skill".

3) changed (for the worse), since the begining of the genre?

Da current MMO trend for equipment to be more important dan a playa’z own skill, an’ da time investment dat you need to put into gettin’ da most powerful gear.

God made women because mens brains are broken.

In your opinion, which MMORPG feature has:

1) evolved the most, since the begining of the genre?

Obviously graphics.

2) changed the least, since the begining of the genre?

Character development and diversity and the fact that these games are all pretty much level based - this needs major work in all games.

3) changed (for the worse), since the begining of the genre?

General game play in most mmorpg's have not changed and most have changed for the worse.

Graphics. Games look fantastic now a days.

2) changed the least, since the begining of the genre?

Method of Progression ie Levels and grinding.

3) changed (for the worse), since the begining of the genre?

MMO's have become much more limited in scope and have become almost totally combat centric.

Character creation is joke comparred to old games. I'm not talking about visual customization, I'm talking about stats, abilities and real variation not just cosmetic.

Ease of play. New MMOs are boring easy, repetitive, non-immersive timesinks more then ever as they have pretty much stripped out the community aspect. What we are getting is console games online.

Playing: City of Heroes
Favorite Games: Lineage 2,World of Warcraft, DAoC, AC, Vanguard, Ryzom
Tried (Meh list): Everquest 2, Guild Wars, LotR, Tabula Rasa, Hellgate, Warhammer(beta) SWG, DDO, RFO, FFXI, PotBS, EVE
Waiting for: Fallen Earth, Star Trek
