Sorry if this has been suggested already. I was reading on the official EQ2 forums, and someone suggested doing this to increase performance.
Options -> User Interface -> Game Windows -> Smooth Fonts -> Uncheck Smooth Fonts
Surprisingly enough, this actually gave me a 5-6fps increase in Darklight Wood. |

Me as well. I can't stand being in a raid and not being able to see anything over all of the damn player names. It also makes it a hell of a lot easier to see your target. To make the world look even cleaner, I removed the arrow above the target and set the opacity and size of the arrow above the implied target very low. I also reduced the opacity of the targeting ring around the target so it isn't as bright. This is one reason I love EQ2; you can change almost anything you want about the UI. |

also noticed that the fonts settings can influence the fps, guess the smoothing of the fonts needs more cpu, and with cpu the main blocker to performance in eq2 you definitely can benefit from every thing that reduces amount of cpu load. |

Man, why does text have such an impact on this game? Try doing /clearchat while running Fraps to display your FPS, and watch how much your FPS jumps back up. Or try hitting f10 twice to make your whole UI dissapear. Your FPS jumps up a LOT. I've never seen a game where the UI hinders the game's performance so greatly. |

Yeah, the worse thing about this game is the heavy dependency on the CPU. Compared to other games, very little work is delegated to the GPU, which is a crying shame. I am getting ready to build a new pc, so I am sure going to get a good processor. |

Existence is random! |
The font setting seemed to initially affect the fps for me in Kunark, but then it settled down to pretty much what it was before, so I guess it depends on your hardware setup. Thanks for trying though. |
