Though I may not see things through the rose tinted glasses that most of you guys do I will say that the latest screens look leaps and bounds better than the older ones.

I especially like the one of the dwarf, and ALL of the landscapes. I sincerely hope the game does come out (though I am a skeptic and I am proud of that), and that it comes out as good as they are promising. If gamers have learned anything though from the past it is that promises are worth about as much as the air they are made of in the MMO world.

Again though, the new screens look great.

The screenies look nice. One question though (and I know I could have found out probably by browsing. Call me lazy, but it is way too late here and I am tired^^) is Darkfall going to support DX10 once it comes out?

Eh... I thought Graphics didn't matter in DFO?

 

I see nothing in any screenshots or videos that have the extent of full DX9c feature sets, let alone DX10.  If they decided to code a 2nd rendering pipe (one for you silly XP users, and one for DX10), you'd see another 18 months tacked onto development easily.

Remember, they'd have to create 2 seperate rendering pipelines.  One for DX9, and one for DX10.

The smarter thing to do, if I was a Darkfall developer throwing around buzzwords like that, is just create a graphics pipe in OpenGL.  Not only would it have features from DX10, but it would also open up the possibility of a Mac port of the game, adding extended possibilities for possible playerbase.

Graphics matter to a certaint point, no need to be top notch. I play singleplayer games for that.

Cool down really, he didnt said anything to attack DF or the Devs, and he didnt said anything wrong.

 

DF will most probably DX9, and will not features DX10 in the beginning(noone knows what happens in 3-5 years and a few updates, expansions).. and noone knows wether the graphic engine is DX9 based or OpenGL, never said anything about it.. and it is irrelevant, too. At least they said, it will just come out for PC, so most probably DX9 engine.

@Caesars: They didnt throw out buzzwords, they said nothing about it at all. And we all know that graphic matter to a certain point. It is always a balance of technically possible and useful for a game, expecially if it is a pvp game with features mass battles, then you have really be carefull with the graphic(polygon count) of your game.. exactly with how high your system requirements will be.. the happy medium is of course for the most the target.

But, much more as graphic is the gameplay important, or the art style(which is cheap from a technically point of view.. i just hint at WoW).

And in all honestly i guess everyone would have a perfect game, the best graphic, the best gameplay, the best of everything, but everyone with a little realismn knows that you will have some trade offs.

As good as the AoC graphics is(although i personally think the chars/mobs dont fit in the environment, but nevertheless the graphic technically is top notch) they will never can feature mass(200 vs 200 or more.. i would be happy if AoC can feature 100vs100 but everything above is wishful thinking) battle with it, because of technically limits. But for Darkfall this is one of their main features, so it is just logical, that they have to reduce the graphics(polygons) to offers this feature.(but even there i doubt we will see much more than 200vs200 at least without lag)
