man i hope not, i really hate that idea. all we need is another one of those free to play piece of shits that arn't worth anything.
mmo's are going in the wrong direction if they think im going to pay money for weapons and armor rather than 15$ a month. I will stick to console gaming if they pull this shit off. |

Originally posted by elondorLooks like your sticking to console gaming then, cause micro transactions are practically the only way to get large numbers of people to play your games if your a small company. Nobody wants to play in an empty game. But if its free, people will stick around. In a world where the # of people online is one of the main attractions, micro transactions reign supreme |

Originally posted by elondor What if it's free but not a piece of shit? You seem to equate free with horrible, when in fact, something can be free and good. It's just that so far everything that's free has come straight from Asia, and are nearly all grind games with no depth whatsoever. Also, I've played a lot of free games, and I can't name any that sell weapons and armor in their cash shop, every shop that I've seen sells consumables in order to keep things selling. |

And some bean counter probably gave them a statistical model to prove that micro transaction bring a lot more that 15 dollars a month per customer. |

Originally posted by DragonOakYup, they are not free. And considering the history of microtransaction games, it's no wonder there are players who refuse to play them. They have all been awful grind games. Microtransactions have one major revenue factor that subs don't have which is why accountants love them. Once you pay for a sub, you really can't pay more even if you wanted to (although character/server transfer fees are in effect, microtransactions). With microtransactions, there's no limit so you are not barring the player from spending more money.

why do humans build, because it isn''t there |
cool looks like I won't need to hide in player controlled worlds and indy games to avoid the hardcore MMOer crowd. |

| There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers. |

I think before some start judging we should actually wait to see what they offer from their shop. If they offer consumables or vanity items then I have no problems with it because it would be a totally optional thing. if they turn around and force you to pay from the shop on a consistent basis then I am not sure players would like that. Also from the article they said they SGW will be a boxed product, so yeah they game will not be free. Take a good long hard look at the game list and tell me that every game that charges a monthly fee is actually worthy of a monthly fee to begin with. Maybe a handfull at best is actually worth paying a monthly fee for. It is just something to think about when companies charge you 50 for the box, 70+ for the collectors edition, a forced monthly fee payment to play as well as making you pay 40 bucks for the expansion. Just food for thought here really. Bottom line is no matter what the model is, we all want very good games to play. |
