No offense, but after reading that thread you linked on the DF forums.....I have not seen such a bitter crowd of people since some of the Pre-CU SWG vets forums.

what do you expect from people who've been following something for 7 years and getting nothing but stale screenshots and a few generic alpha videos in that time?

when you going to give up you have lost sorry

The reason for the hostility on the AoC Dev side is in the recent interview with Darkfall Dev Tasos at WarCry labeled 3/28/08 they took a cheap shot at AoC Mature rating. And I Qoute.

"We never tried to exploit the M rating, and we never felt there was a need to tease our players with promises of ultra violence or sexist sexual innuendo. For us, it's all about the features that come from offering full freedom gameplay with accountability. We've remained true to our original vision to this day."

Also another reason shots were fired is because all of sudden Tasos was bursting at the seams with all the features that Darkfall would provide and it was endless like they had no programming barriers, I mean other companies thought about these things, just the tech is not up to par to do them. If they can seamlessly blend a world and I quote.

"The size of the world: From the ones we know about, It's at least more than twice the land area size of the largest announced or released MMO out there. This world is also seamless and zoneless."

No one has pulled that off to that degree and I just don't see our tech able to pull that off as well. And the character models how they can be scaled etc.. It just sounds like they are adding everything in a dream world and AoC sees this as false because as I've been saying technology is not yet up to snuff to this type of stuff.

Now don't get me wrong Darkfall is quite the project and I hope to see it successful as much as the next Darkfall fan but you gotta take a spoon of salt from this latest interview it does sound like an info-commercial and it does like they are trying to fluff everything, stuff that isn't possible.

Buy hey only time can tell, if you haven't read the dev journal yet, please do it here 3/28/08 Tasos Dev Journal Darkfall Development

the tech is not up to par with the graphics they want to run they made there engine from scratch its called new tech has to come at some point in time.

but like you said time will tell but think of it as them being pretty much honest with us

Perhaps Darkfall even in it's current form, is a threat to the status quo of mmorpgs so it is common for any "offended"
mmo company or any individual developer to attack it by any means he has.

Just imagine what will happen if Darkfall goes beta. A small dev team versus multi million mmos that all of their features tied together are not even half the features that Darkfall has, but they are not even half the features of Ultima Online (which unfortunately for them is not a vaporware).

I want Darkfall to succeed and i would love to see the faces of the cloners that take 4-5 years in development (Betas and Gammas not included) and then come here to show off their unfinished games that feature visual chat rooms, instances and loading screens in the year 2008 of quad core CPUs and several gigabytes of RAM.

And then, pot plant designers, boob algorithm specialists and many other professions made up to consume and justify the standard 20 million dollar mmo budget, will give their place to real developers worthy of their salaries-time and that's just the problem they have against any kind of Darkfall.

You live in a VERY well crafted fantasy don't you?  You really have no clue what goes on behind the scenes in this industry...nor any clue exactly what kind of work is involved.  Its beyond evident to me.

No one is "afraid" of Darkfall.  Even in the best case scenario (and this is even admitted by the DF devs as a reason they haven't taken a publisher) Darkfall will NEVER be mainstream.  It will live its life as a niche game, just as any other FFA PVP game in this genre will.  The only people who would be scared of such a game, are its ONLY existing competitors...EVE.  Its THOSE players that will jump ship...not the hordes of people who get a chubby playing secure level/class systems.  Guess what most of the market is?  Hell, guess what AoC, WAR, WoW, and nearly every game put OUTS market is?

To clear up what I said in the beginning....the devs that make thease "simple easy clones" aren't being lazy. In fact, most MMO companies work their production team to the bone, 80 hour weeks and such.  If it takes full, and EXPERIENCED, teams working massive shifts 5 or so years to make these stupid and simple games....just how farkin long do you think its going to take some stupid newbie INDIE group to pull of something that is promising well over 10x the content?

Hell, I'll TELL you.  It won't happen.  Never.  Without a publisher to grant them more workers and broader timeframes....that teeny little indie group would be LUCKY to pull off a CLONE of WoW in the time they have taken.  Even then, I'd bet my bottom dollar it wouldn't have the polish WoW did...and right now, thats a MUST.  They also WILL NOT have the customer support Blizzard did either....being indie does that to you.  Can't afford large support staff when your overhead just ate almost every dime you've ever made.

In conclusion...stop dreaming.  Its REALLY silly seeing you fans talk like you do.  It shows a complete detachment from reality.  Google this stuff...read up on what it REALLY takes to make these games. Come back here and discuss just what this indie group can and cannot do once you learn about it.  Suggesting that any serious MMO company is afraid of vaporware is dumb....hell, its NICHE vaporware.  No one is shaking in their boots over this.  Most companies are gonna have already long since made wads of cash off their games before DF even sees the light of beta.

What year would that be?  3020?

Judging by 'this' i believe it means current year. Please cease your flaming as it proves nothing and only embarrases yourself.

Go back to AoC please :)

Teala still has a valid point.  Every year someone on these forums that beta will start this year, than the year goes by and no beta.....

If I were anyone following this game, I would keep statements like "beta is atleast this year" mum until there is an actual beta start date stated by a DF dev.

I remember some guildies signing up for guild beta back in 2005 under the impression it was starting that year.  Has guild beta started yet?

did i say it last year? no did i say it before hand hell iw asnt barly watching it until end of 2007 because i understand the time needed to amke a game like this.

I can garrentee beta this year if it doesnt happen im not going to follow it either just play something else

On the Darkfall website a new Press Release just appeared! They are hiring 20 more developers and are in talks with a Publisher. As for the reason for this unexpected move they stated: downtoearth wouldn't play Darkfall if we don't have a Beta this year.

Wauw.. Well said Tasos!

... On a side note, I find it quite fascinating that a developer from Age of Conan acts this way! It's clearly a sign of fear..

I dont like the idea of the AoC devs beeing afriad. That would mean thay have a weak product, and dont have 100% faith in it.

There have been alot of 'rumours' that you can't stray from a certain path of terrain in AOC, similar to guild wars.

Other "rumours" about Pizza Hut on their shields. Hope it not ruin the inner feeling of Conan world.

Yea, I heard that too. I also heard that you need to rest in a McDonalds if you want to re-gain your health points and that you can do long-distance travel in a Mercedes that looks like a dragon ... dude, what are you smoking?

The invisible walls have been bugs that have been fixed, as for your "rumour", I guess it will take a shrink to fix that one.
