Sort of depends on what you're looking for in an MMO. It would help if you were to list your preferences as to how important crafting, PvP, Housing, PvE, Soloability, etc are. |

Have you done the free trials yet? If not that should help you choose. I think both have a lot to offer depending on what you are looking for.

Tough choice. WoW sucked me in when i first tried it, LoTRO also sucked me in when i first tried it. Of course over time both get a little stale but...overall, I'd say LoTRO is better, unless you like a bigger, generally more immature community, then you can pick WoW hehe. OH and if it means anything, LoTRO is rated 8.4 (highest game) on this site, WoW is somewhere like 8.1. -------------------------------------- Order of the White Border. |

Well Ive played both and it is hard to say. LOTR will require a better computer to get the best looks out of the game. WoW however will prolly max graphics out on just about any computer now day. LOTR has more of a "down to earth" feel , while WoW is extreamly high fantasy setting. Thats not to say that LOTR is not fantasy, its just that the landscapes and most of the MOBS are more reality based where as WoW's landscapes, buildings and general over all look are not something you would see while out strolling in the real world wilds. LOTR has a neat interlocking storyline quest set, where one long story is told throughout a set of instances. WoW is mostly a bunch of separate quest and you dont get to any of the main plot lines of the world until the highest levels. LOTRs story/quests are cool but I think WoW wins in this because they are they are new stories and Blizz can go as far out as they want with them. There is not much Spellcasting in LOTR.. its more real world style fighting , where as with WoW ever spell you can think of is going off all the time. WoW has two factions you can play, Kinda a good and evil set up. In LOTR everyone is on the same side and all player races are mostly human looking. (LOTR does have "monster play" the PVP set up for LOTR , it is VERY cool, you roll a lvl 50 Monster ... you can be a spider!) Both games have a super , amazing interface system that you just can not complain about. This area of both games is almost a polished and and as slick as possible |

Do a trial for each and then decide? They are rather diffrent in graphic and world, so maybe it will help you to decide. |

WoW: Good things (I dont consider them good, but most WoW players do): -easy to play, even if you have no arms and legs (exageration) -does not require much thinking at all Bad things: -worst community you will ever encounter, comprised of underaged kids or adults that act worse then kids -endless grind with no real aim (all progress is erased with a new expansion) -meaningless gank fest/corpse camping pvp -crap lore, mostly ripped from warhammer (the board game) and crappy pop culture references -crap economy
Lotr: Good things: -great lore with excelent quests -has a nice and mature community -free content updates Bad things: -lack of much content -realy restricted pvp -cannot play a evil side
Hope this helps you decide. |

Personally I'd go LOTRO, there is way more offered than WoW ever will! Not saying WoW or bad, its just so easy to lvl in to the cap then all u do is raid after raid after raid. If you have a good PC, DL the High Rez client for LOTRO, and jump on Elendilmir Server...just do the trial for a day or so and I'll help show u around some if u like. My main is a lvl 50 Minstrel by the name of Janika.
Also do like ur games to have style and varying architecture and places to explore? In WoW every single building, cave, etc u see in the beginning is reused every place in the world, there is no random or unique layouts. I think there are like 4-5 diff ones but they're everywhere so that Inn u walked into at lvl 5 wil be the same layout everytime u find one through to lvl 70, its boring. Yes the end-game instances are all unique, but they all still use the same rehashed graphics recolored or replaced though. In LOTRO every single building, ruins, cave, instance, dungeons etc, are all completely unique and something new every time u find something to explore, there are no repeats of anything. Everything is unique to explore and u never know what u'll find out there cause its a new experience everywhere. Also the landscape is truly breathtaking, if feels like ur exploring a world with rolling plains, huge lakes and rivers, paths running up the side of mountains too high cliffs and perilous drops at every turn. Forests and swamps to get lost in, and so many old ruins to explore....

I can't see how anyone can say that wow has better quests then lotro. I've played wow since release and just left the other day so I can focus more on lotro. The instances in lotro are amazing and really draw you in, that really helps when you're gearing towards level 50 and makes the "grind" not even seem bad at all cause you are following a story. In wow the quests and instances are random and boring with no plot (like the other poster said until you get to the very very end). Wow was a good game for me I loved pvp and killing alliance but other then the pvp the game got stale. Patch after patch there was nothing really new about it, with lotro they are coming out with a new x-pac and still have a lot left they can add. If you want more of a pvp type game I say wow no doubt they have the best pvp imo. But if you want a mix of both and to be envoled more in quests and instances I say lotro. Also wow has more of a cartoon look going on, lotro is nice to look at and makes good use of graphics. |

I guess it would depend on howmany time you want to spend to a game. I have played both games and would suggest World of Warcraft for a longer period (5 months +), Lord of the Rings Online for a shorter period (2-4 months). Both games are extreamely well set up, so you just should play the trials and decide for yourself |

WoW Good things: -Range of content, easy content for people who want instant gratification and difficult content for people who want a challenge. -OK PvP, It's turned more into an esport than meaningful PvP though. -More Well disguised grind than a lot of games. -Blizzard is always trying to improve their game. They actively listen to the player base and improve their game based on what we say. Bad things: -Tons of idiots, you need to find a good guild if you want to keep from killing yourself from stupidity -The WarCraft Lore is rich, but it is not spoon fed to you, its mostly hidden in the flavor text of quests which no one ever reads. If you want to know the lore you need to find it yourself. -Gold Sellers spam you whenever you are in a major city (although this has gone down considerably) ------------------------------------ |
