Well, to be honest what is to be expected?
Look at the number of players with different opinion what the game is - PvP, RvR, PvE/PvP mix etc. The design is such that it makes it hard to say what kind of game it is supposed to be, let alone what has to be done for it to work. |

If you see that a port is in a red circle, and absolutely need to go there, and suspect something fishy is going on.. why are you going in alone? Where's the strategy in that? Of course they will get ganked.. Call for backup. Form a defense fleet, etc etc. Thats what the devs mean by no crying in the red circle. Play dumb, get killed.. dont complain. l2p noobs! hah. But seriously. Also some ships are excellent at running circles around gank squads.. why are you not in one of those if you just can't get passed them otherwise? Players aren't looking for solutions, players are whining and want the solutions to be forced by development. its way to hard for a player to *gasp* form social bonds with his nationality, or, heaven forbids, learn and implement strategy. And dont spew out things about how its impossible to avoid etc etc.. I made it a point to purposely go out and get jumped by gankers all the time, then ran them in circles or even sunk one or two that played silly. Eventually they even stopped trying to attack me, and I'd be able to anchor right off their bows without them moving a finger.. lazy sods. And no, i am not a fanboi, other than that I found the game dull and dont play it much anymore

Fortunately we have hardcore elites like you to tell us how a video game should be enjoyed.
Now, since I was one of casual players who could only afford few hours per day I am going to continuei n that vein by going out for the night and leaving this pointless discussion. Enjoy forming virtual social bonds and developing strategy around broken video games. Sounds like a worthy pursuit. |

That makes very little sense.. no one is telling anyone how to enjoy the game. If like me you enjoy getting ganked (or defying all odds and beating the gankers at their own game), then sure, by all means, enjoy the game. I merely pointed out that running blindly into circles is silly and not very effective, especially in some slow warship/trade boat. Also note the extra stuff i added in an edit after you posted heh. The moral is, if you aren't good at something, its not that something's fault.. its not yours either, often enough. |

dont strain yourself this is a case of either a) people who dont play the game to any extent or are unaware of the large pve element b) people trying to oversimplify the situation who are in some kind of denial mode

It's completely optional to do the capital city part of the econ tutorial. Furthermore, your starter ship offers NO rewards if it is sunk by another players. Finally, the econ tutorial specifically warns you that you're likely to get sunk if you try it and aren't careful. The only quests PotBS "requires" you to do are the career missions as the rewards for those are too good to pass up. |

Originally posted by Sarg01 I hope the defense of the PvP system doesn't go in this direction. I hate to think about new players having a conversation like this: New Player - Man, this game has a lot of PvP, and it is getting to be quite unfair. They should do something to balance it better. Vet - You aren't required to do the PvP part. Its fine the way it is. Just avoid it. New Player - But, when I want to do missions, they end up taking me to PvP zones that aren't going away for almost a whole week. If I want to complete my missions, I'm pretty much required to enter a PvP zone. Vet - Almost none of the missions are required. They offer no value to you. So, again, you aren't required to do PvP. New Player - But, in order to level, I have to do quite a bit of missions. Missions are a requirement for leveling... Vet - Leveling isn't required. You can easily enjoy the game at level 10 just sailing around, avoiding PvP zones, skipping missions, and talking to folks. Or, play the economy...just don't do any of the missions. New Player - What folks? I never meet anyone because I can't sail around because there's too much PvP. Vet - Oh....well, really, you HAVE to join a Guild. If you're going to get the most enjoyment out of PotBS, joining a guild is absolutely a REQUIREMENT. New Player - ????????? New Player - Okay...you seem nice, I'll join your guild. What are you guys doing tonight? Vet - A ports in contention, so we're gearing up for some serious PvP. New Player - *sigh*.......... |
