So what happens when an old school gamer meets up with a new school gamer. Do you have a story to tell? I got one...
I'm 39 now but this happened a few years ago. My wife and I were on a cruise ship which had a small video arcade. One of the arcades was a two seater car racing game. So my wife took one seat and I plopped down into the one next to her and we ran a few races. Now my wife is a gamer, but she's more of the sniper type. Racing games, I kill her. So I am playing the game, laughing hysterically as my wife tries to keep up. I admit I was being cocky.
Anyway, after the second game, I notice this kid lurking over the back of my seat, watching our game. After the third slaughter of a game, the kid says, "Can I race you?"
I was like, "Sure." So my wife gets up and he sits down in the seat and the race is on. First thing I do is slam my car into his, forcing him into the rail...then I pass him and take the lead. He starts to gain on me, slowly....I have a good lead and I'm not making any mistakes. But he's cutting all the corners and I can feel the concentration emanating from him. The finish line is quickly approaching and he is riding up on my tail fast. So I slam on my breaks and he smashes into the back of me and goes into a spin. His collision just bumps me forward though and I speed across the finish line victorious.
Afterward he gets up out of the seat, thanks me for the game and slinks away, defeated. I turn to my wife and said, "I think that kid thought he was gonna teach me a lesson." |
