Hi

I apologize if this posted twice........comp screwed up..anyway I was Checking out Gemstone 4 by Simutronics...the monthly fee for basic one character is 14.99...For more plus premium features is an additional 24.99 a month....

I'm not an expert on MUDS but to me even 14.99 seems high....Just wondered how any game can be worth 40 a month.....Are P2P MUDS that much better than freebies.?..I played Avalon a long time ago.

thanks

Tom

probably not...

I know I wouldnt pay 400 bucks for an old pentium 2, why pay the same price for something that is several years obsolete.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are many that feel its worth it, and there are many that don't. Some need fancy graphics and grind, some people have what they call an imagination.

If the game offered what I was looking for, I'd pay to play it.

I would say that -if- MUDs are your thing, you can't go wrong with Simutronics' games.  They are the 'kings of content' as I've heard countless people call them.  So I'd say it is safe to wager that their MUDs have more support and more content and depth than any free one that you'll come across.

Simu has had the same prices for it's MUDs since 1997.

They're never going to lower the prices, since Dragonrealms still keeps around 600-700 people online at primetime.

I dont know if paid MUDs have changed since 1999, but during that time , you paid by the hour then later a rather high monthly price, often times for DM run events or stories. Other times MUDs (especially the older ones from like AOL , ) had content that came on a weekly update, would make most MMORPGs cry.

Back in the day it was the best content on the web , even making Eq1 and UO , look bad (content and DM to player ratio). Things changed, I havent played one since 2k , though I ve seen some top notch ones still out there with more people than Shadowbane ..

Ask a question and you are stupid for 30 seconds, never ask and you are stupid for life.

Surprisingly I have never heard of GemStone IV, I checked out the site and looked at a few reviews and sounds pretty good. 15 dollars for one character is sorta a lot, but then again all MMORPGs that are out (free or pay to play) I have fun for a couple weeks or less then I am utterly bored of them. I currently sub for WoW and have no idea why, I only log on once a week for a couple hours or less. I guess I'm hoping to find it fun again or something...

anyways, I may try GemStone IV when I get a chance...they have a 30 day trial it looks like. I do like MUDs a lot more than MMOs these days...haven't found a good MUD yet, found a couple that I sorta like, but GemStone IV seems to be updated a lot and sounds more like what I'm looking for.
