Ironically, by moving their release date and themselves from being in direct competition with AoC, they may have put themselves in direct competition with the next WoW expansion.  This is a lot worse then AoC because both games have the same target audience, and WoW is a behemoth in the press whether we like it or not.

You would think EA wouldnt be scared with the Beta numbers they like to plaster everywhere and use for marketing.

WoW expac sales will kill anything that releases near it. Not too many people will want to go out and buy two games in a short period of time, esp if they are sub based.

Unless you a massive company eg Bliz, looks like any game that releases with a shorter that average developement time just wont have the content and carry the complaints.

To me this could be a great blessing or the worst move Mythic could make. If they get the game out in September, the launch will be between the WOW xpac and AOC. That's probably the latest sweet spot they can hope for. Going head-to-head with Rise of The Lich King would be pure suicide IMHO. Many of the players who might have given WAR a try will stick with what they know if both games come out for the holidays.

Personally, I think it could mean the difference for WAR from hitting the million mark + to only have a few hundred K subs.

Actually it may do just the opposite.  Instead of using their resources to try and pull people into the stores they are now going to be able to piggy back off the mass of casual players coming in for the WoW expansion.  So when "Johnny" comes into the story to by his copy of Wrath of the Lich King, what will he see sitting next to it?  A copy of this new game Warhammer.  It may just earn Mythic some people that wouldn't of otherwise tried out the game.

Maybe, but that is a really large gamble especially given the raw name recognition WoW has gained over the last few years.  Plus like one of the above posters said, Aion is coming out too.   While Aion may come off as a darkhorse game, it is an RvR based game that has far better graphics then what we have seen from WAR, and we are talking about the fact they are not even in Beta yet.   So if little Johnny flips the boxes over and compares graphics, it might be a problem.   Graphics don't really matter as much to me aqs game play, but it does to a lot of people out there.

You forget that WoW has just been around for a few years, warhammer turns 25 this year.( yes i know the WC series is old but WoW is what drew in the large numbers) warhammer is also pretty big in Europe where it orginated. Mythic is also based in England. Plus as long as it comes out before WotLK or gets a guranteed release date close to it, i dont think WotLK will hurt it. People already wanting to quit wow wont bother with it. Plus like someone said, if someone sees the xpac next to another mmo they might consider it. This is how i tried out Vanguard and LOTRO(which i dont feel bad starting when i get my new comp soon. current could handle beta but not live game.......)

When they say Fall 2008 they really mean Summer 2009. And they'll be lucky to hit 2009.

I am delighted about this... I think AoC deserves a real stab at being the next big thing, and this will give it the breathing room as well as a increase in initial purchasers. And if it isn't... well, WAR will come after. So its win win in my opinion.

I couldn't agree more. I'm looking forward to Aoc, Warhammer, and aion.  Launching them too close only results in a split. With them alittle more stretched out, it should give the buyer a little more time to decide which is right for him, instead of having to buy both around the same time.

What can be smarter than trying to avoid becoming the next Vanguard?

Do or do not. There is no try.

The part in red isn't true.  Games Workshop is a European company if that is what you meant.  Mythic is based in the VA area.
