Actually, you are at least one allegation behind the rest of us.

The information I pointed to does not deal with a strategy given to a guild, in order that they then be able to honestly beat an encounter.

The information I pointed to is evidence of a developer taking a bug report, passing the existence of that exploit on to his own guild so that they might exploit it, and then promising that while they do, he would "look the other way" so that they could get their epics.

A dev passing on strategy to his guild = perhaps a bad idea due to now knowing where he got the info.

A dev passing a bug report to his guild and promising that if they exploit it, he will "look the other way" = cheating.

Plain and simple.

And, in case you are not sure, cheating is always wrong, m'kay?

The exploits etc happen in other games too, nothing new tbh...

Prince Malchazar at Karazhan exploit anyone ? Yes you know which one. At the door! :P

Fixed now tho

No offense meant zspawn, but that kind of blase' attitude when it comes to cheating and what is right and wrong really makes me feel... old.

I'm probably as old as you feel :P

But I don't like cheating. Not at all... What I wanted to say it's if you wanna be against cheating you gotta be frank + fair against it in no matter what form it comes in...

People always try to find ways around stuff and will always find them.

Developers always try to push things a bit to "cheat / exploit" but I wonder what's their real purpose. Perhaps to avoid player frustration or whatever I am not into those things much.

However if you wanna go on a crusade against "corruption" and "hand of God" acts by developers, be fair towards the game as well.

In my experience I've seen less corruption + exploiting in EQ2 than other games (but it's there tho).

I don't wanna go into details cause it's irrelevant.

Exploiting ? Cheating ? - Totally against it.

Help from developers (even if that is to ignore issues) ? - Hmm...I'm kinda thinkin on that still.

Stay away from EQ2 for these reasons? Hell no :) Not valid enough...

There is a world of difference between players that cheat and developers that cheat.  Players have no control over the game, their only vested interest in the advancement of their characters.

Developers have those same things and more.  They need the trust of the community, they have a direct impact on how the game is made and played.  To compare the two as if they are somehow equal isn't realistic.  Some player submitted an exploit based on the faith that the developers would use that information to help fix the game and instead that jackass used it for personal gains.

If the developers of a game are willing to put aside the rules and cheat for their own and their friends benefits who is to say just how far they will go.  Will they let an exploit stay live longer?  Will they not move as fast on broken content?  Will they create bugs/exploits for their friends to use?  Turn a blind eye to gold farmers because they use their service?

Obviously several SOE employees have put their own personal interests in the game ahead of that of the playerbase and health of the game and its communities, so who is to say what else they have done or where their priorities are at?

Actually, he first alerted them to the exploit, and then told them that they could use it to get their epics, and that when they do, he would "look the other way".

It is a little deeper than just "ignoring issues". It goes much deeper than just not doing ones jog.

To be clear, I've never encouraged people not to play EQ2. For the record, I am not the OP here.

Simply, based on what happened this past December, and what has been revealed now, it is important that this information again gets out so that people can be informed when they do choose to put a large portion of their free time into a game that does not have a level playing field, nor the same opportunities,  for all players.

Everyone can make up their own mind.

One thing never changes, however, no matter what your age.

Cheating in a game is wrong.

There are no excuses for it.

Yep I agree on most of of your points.

But making it such a big issue nowadays I don't think it's that serious imho...

Or as I said at least be fair and mention IT'S BAD and IT'S HAPPENNING in other games even more popular ones so it's best to question why this happens rather than turn this into "YET ANOTHER ONE" SOE thread..

Cause I somehow feel that instead of discussing the issues of exploiting etc. it's just another one of those "look what SOE did again, to the fire with them!" etc.

*sighs* Jeff, do you really think this is unique to SOE? Or are you just picking on them because you don't like them? Its a game, move on.

"We represent The Lollipop Guild, The Lollipop Guild, The Lollipop Guild..."

I agree that another "SOE is the devil" posts feels just like the LOTRO "OMG This game roxorzsss..." posts

It is getting lame..
