So I have been reading on the forum for quite some time now and seeing everyone talk about Asherons Call which was one of the best games ever made and I had to stop and think about the OLD OLD days. The first MMORPG ever made if i'm correct was The Realm and by GOD did I LOVE this game.

Man I miss the community and the adventure that this game had. I remember when 6,000 people on at once was SOOOO many. It was a lot of fun getting to know people and using the community with trades and such. I mean who remembers using MM's to do trades. THATS COMMUNITY. You would go on global chat and ask for a trusyworthy Middle Man to do a trade for you and HUNDREDS of people would vouche for certain people. Or even the magicians who were already kick ass and high lvl. They would sit around and enchant your armor and swords for you for free just to be nice.

Boy do I miss playing this game. I even remember when I bought my first Wrath back when the lvl cap was 100. Hunting in groups to go kill the cyclops in The Killing Fields or taking a group of people down to fight Baby Dragons lol.

And i'll never forget the Cyclops dropping an Executioner the best weopon on the game and I got the drop :D

The Realm and Asherons Call by far the best communities and the most interesting adventure games created.

Yeah...good luck feeling one of those experiences again with the trash that's out now =/.

I just can't seem to get comfortable, or immersed in the gameworlds of mmo's today. I mean they can be fun and interesting but it gets to the point where you don't give a shit anymore what happens in it. I've taken a break on mmo's for the moment and i've been delving into amazon.com and other places looking for DOS RPG/FPS games. Play The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall? (the game before morrowind) Jesus christ  THAT is a game world. Or Wizardry 8, or any of the MIght and Magic series, Lands of Lore, etc.

Those are games (like The Realm) that can give you great memories that'll last a lifetime. With this new-age stuff that comes out every 5 minutes (im looking at you, korean grinders), there's no love or reason to be attatched to the game world. It's not unique anymore, it's bland. It doesn't have to be incredibly fucking crazy wild different compared to what we have now.....I'm just saying it needs a little love put into it.

Sorry..ranted lol

The gameplay was of course not like todays games but I still enjoyed it more than most of these games that have come out. Gameplay is extremely important but I think most MMORPG fans will agree with me when I say Fellowship and Adventure are the 2 most important things in an MMO. It is what keeps people playing the game after you have gotten burned out on the gameplay.

1v1 FoD, right now noob!  :P haha

I miss the days of when Sierra owned it though.  Dieing and losing like 50 lvls of exp was awesome, lol.  Good times.  I remember when they first came out with the new helms, and the game became The Helm Online.  I was the first mortal player to get a cloth hood.  You had to get an egg, engrave your name on it and find a GM that was hidden in a building in one of them towns.  Then you had to hand him the egg, and he gave you the hood.  You wouldn't believe the offers I got just for some pixels

This got me reading the wiki on the original NWN (AOL).  Amazing times.  =)  Back when guilds could change the world around us.  What's cool is there's still NWN servers out there that still do this, using BioWare's NWN of course.

Even though the politics on the server have an American like epicness to them, I think I'll log in soon just to get my RP on.  =)  I miss RP.

I actually went back and played the free version of The Realm not to long ago. The trial was fun but your lucky to get over 200 people in the server most of which are maxed lvl players who just get on to chat with friends or have built such a fortune that they just dont want to give it up. I dont think many people actually PLAY the game anymore. I loved it though and would play it again and again.

The Realm really was a great time.  Oh the days of literally standing in a line waiting to enter a dungeon....
