As is the case with most MMOGs are there any benefits to certain races for certain classes?  I was thinking about a Necromancer, are the any pro's or con's if I decide to go with one race over another?

Thank you!

Yes, there are racial abilities, both active and passive and stat differences.  So choosing carefully for your necro is a good idea.  Some of the active abilities can make huge differences.

Thank you.

I was over at vgnecro.com and I noticed  that humans received +4 to stats with each level, while some of the other races had hard stat gains.  What is the general opinion of the preferred race for Necros?

Thank you.

If buying Marijuana supports terrorists, legalize it so we can buy American.

Kurashasa is a nice choice. They get +2 constitution and +2 intellect for static attributes. Intellect increases your spell damage and constitution increases your hit points and resists. Constitution is also important for a necro because they have an energy regenerating form that eats hit points to create energy.

Passive ability: Animal reflexes - An ability that grants a 10% run speed bonus.

Active ability: Symbiotic armor - When this armor is active you will be consumed by a symbiotic presence. In addition to regaining 2% of your health every 3 seconds, you will apply an effect to all enemies within a 20 meter point-blank radius. Anyone affected by this debuff will become snared and slowed.

Just my personal favorite. Most seemed to prefer Dark Elf or Gnome though.

While the total points are actually the same across difference races, human are more flexible in point spending while other races will already have portion of the points automatically assigned.  On the other hand, for non-human races, a +3/+4 attribute will have a greater potential max than human.  So for necro where Int is the most important, Gnome will max at 378, Dark Elf & Kurashasa at 337, while humans can only max to 296.  There are always debates to as what's the most important attribute to a class however.  As to racial abilities, I prefer DE's drake pet and damage buff from the pet.  But overall, its just something extra, instead of being the deciding factor in what race one should pick, at least for necro.

War is not the ultima ratio, but the ultima irratio - Willy Brandt

Humans can distribute 14 points per level, with up to +5 per level in a single stat.

Nonhumanoids can distribute 10 points per level, with up to +4 per level in a single stat, plus they get a fixed bonus of 4 points somewhere.

Additionally, at every levelup, you get +1 on all stats.

That means, for example, a Gnome can have +8 on Int per levelup - +1 from levelup, +4 distributed, and +3 racial.

The attributes of interest for a necromancer are:

Intelligence - gives spell damage

Wisdom - gives mana as well as spell crit

Vitality - gives mana and health regeneration

Constitution - gives hitpoints and resistance

Intelligence and Wisdom are definitely nobrainers. You absolutely need them; max them. Constitution is a surprise, maybe, but being a necromancer you can heal yourself with drain health, and you can generate mana by sacrificing health. However, the HP bonus from Con isnt great. But neither is the Energy regen from Vit.

My personaly choice for a Necromancer would be Darkelf. First of all, they are the most stylish. A gnome that is a necromancer ?!? Come on ! And, they get +2 Int, +1 Wis, and another 10% spell damage from their racial buff they can refresh every 15 min. That should beat those damn Gnomes !
