with free shipping, does that make TR  Richard Garriotts Diakatana, and if so can he ever have credibility as a desinger again?

Discuss.

He probably needed more money for his space trip...
Whatever his reasons was I'm gonna avoid anything with his name on it in the future. This kind of behavior and complete negligence makes me puke.

I have no idea what everyone's problem with TR is. GREAT game, fun to play, decent PvP, and why the hell is getting a game cheap a bad thing? Personally, think it is astounding to get this great a game at such a low price. I got mine for 7.50 a few hours ago. i did a victory dance.

My opinions on TR's shortcomings:

1. The cloning system doesn't work. Nice idea on paper, fundamentally flawed. Say you get to level 40 and unlock the Thrax hybrid and decide that you want to be a Thrax from now on; you clone your "main" character and get a new character that is a Thrax. However, you also lose all your old clone points (as they're still bound to your old character). You also lose all progression in the ToO missions (zone wide uber-missions that take ages to complete).

2. You can't respec without cloning. Make a single wrong decision and you have to clone, leading to the same problems mentioned above. Clone points are also finite. You get them from ToO's and the cloning mission, but once they run out, you can't get any more.

3. Mobs that can one-hit kill you. There is a mob in-game called a Strider and it has a large turret on it which can and will one-shot most players.

4. Useless skills. There are simply too many of them.

5. Lack of content. If you miss a few missions as you're levelling, it's too easy to end up in a situation where you are forced to grind XP to level up so that you can unlock new missions. Where in most games you have a few choices on where to go and what to do, TR has a rigid linear progression and not enough missions to ensure that it's a smooth one.

6. Crafting. It's terrible. You can modify your gear with slight bonuses or make medkits/ammo at a cost that's about 95% of what it would be just to buy them from a vendor. No weapon/armour crafting at all.

7. No roleplaying support; your character has a few emotes and stuff, but that's about it.

8. End-game. There isn't one. Once you hit level 50 there is literally nothing that you can do progress your character in any way. Nothing to work toward.

9. No vehicles. I know they're planned but seriously; it's a sci fi game and the ability to pilot and/or take control of base turrets should have been in the game from the beginning.

10. And finally, no meaningful PVP. You can join a clan and gank one another with no real reason or benefit. There is no capture-the-flag or hold-an-objective style PVP minigames, no clan control of outposts, nothing.

That pretty much sums my feelings up as well, I mean Vehicles should have been in at launch, with the abysmal lack of content the six plus year dev cycle and all the money shoved in Garriotts pockets there is no excuse not to at least have ground Vehicles my god it's a sci fi game, that's like doing a Fantasy game and saying well swords aren't in yet but they are on the list.
Epic fail

Eh, personally i'm fine with watching a game unfold while i'm in it.. so i can remeniss(how u spell that)  about how much has changed etc. The gameplay and story line more than makes up for the cloning problems, which are being worked on.

Plus, vehicles would be cool, but i think it would take away from the game slightly, due to the fact that it is about you chanelling logos powers... which would be pretty hard in a vehicle.

I'm happy with it as it is, and eagerly await the changes. Much better game than WoW or runescape tho.

The one thing that i do have to agree on tho is the fact that there is no real PVP... i get that everyone is against the bane, and that is cool and all, but PvP (i like the CTF or Multiple CP idea) is needed to make the game fun.. especially at end game... but i'll be patient enough to wait and see how the game unfolds.

However, you also lose all your old clone points (as they're still bound to your old character). You also lose all progression in the ToO missions (zone wide uber-missions that take ages to complete). Thats not fully correct, you do lose things you did not complete with your main character, but all that you have completed remains completed, and lets be honost you don't even need to pursuit ToO as you gain almost about 80% of them by simply doing the quest ingame or explore the gameworld.

2. You can't respec without cloning. Make a single wrong decision and you have to clone, leading to the same problems mentioned above. Clone points are also finite. You get them from ToO's and the cloning mission, but once they run out, you can't get any more. True but indeed imagine people actualy THINK before making certain disissions.

3. Mobs that can one-hit kill you. There is a mob in-game called a Strider and it has a large turret on it which can and will one-shot most players. If you're a too low of lvl and trying to have a go at a Strider then you are right, if you are the appropriate lvl and understand your weapons/gear/skills and such then you will NOT be one-shot killed by them.

4. Useless skills. There are simply too many of them. That kinda depence on a persons playstyle, tho some are less usefull indeed then some others. But not totaly useless.

You already seem to fully understand the way TR handle's things, so .......who's to blame here?

6. Crafting. It's terrible. You can modify your gear with slight bonuses or make medkits/ammo at a cost that's about 95% of what it would be just to buy them from a vendor. No weapon/armour crafting at all. Must say i'm a real crafting junky sort of speak , but seriously i already knew from the start it wouldn't be a prime feature in the game so i already knew it wasn't the thing for me to get my crafting fix. If i would have beleived crafting would be some sort of deep experiance in TR then i would indeed have disliked it allot, but the fact remains it was never meant to be that.

7. No roleplaying support; your character has a few emotes and stuff, but that's about it. Agree it lacks certain feature's what could make roleplaying more pleasant and enjoyeble

8. End-game. There isn't one. Once you hit level 50 there is literally nothing that you can do progress your character in any way. For me the term endgame means me having done all professions in TR to max....not asap but it might takes months even before i'm gonna hit max with my main, when i have done all thats including exploring, having funwith friends or new people i have met or meet, after the fun wears of it's "EndGame" for me. So lack of endgame does not fit me in the way many seem to talk about it.

9. No vehicles. I know they're planned but seriously; it's a sci fi game and the ability to pilot and/or take control of base turrets should have been in the game from the beginning. I like the idea of vehicles in a sci-fi world, but then i would like them in a MMO that is larger then the worlds TR is placed in. I don't really see the appeal of having them in TR as we can walk everywhere very fast due to the maps not really being large, i even feel they will slowdown the whole experaince TR can give players, stepping in/out of vehicles, getting to topspeed, then look at the landscape to manouver on, i do feel the Mechs that are coming would be a very cool addition but only in the way we already see them being used in attacks/assault/defending situations. If the maps where like example a map of vangaurd then vehicles for driving around would make sence. I agree on the turrets part as i also thought this would be something possible and not even that hard to implement.

10. And finally, no meaningful PVP. You can join a clan and gank one another with no real reason or benefit. There is no capture-the-flag or hold-an-objective style PVP minigames, no clan control of outposts, nothing. Also this for me and from the info i read about TR was never meant to be a big thing but just a side feature, but again due to the devs actualy listing to their playerbase they are adding/working/developing more things to cater towards the pvp community, and still we see some of them complain but not really being honost in understanding it was never meant but will be turned towards what YOU who like pvp seem to want in TR

And OP, i geusse you never been to Ebay before...it's amazing what things you can find for ridiculous low prices.

Come now, Reklaw..

Using the argument "ok, so that side of the game sucks but you knew that when you started playing so it's ok that it sucks" is just lazy. Making excuses for the lack of a respec system by blaming players for not planning ahead with knowledge of skills that they couldn't possible have until they tested them out?

And really, "end-game content" is NOT rerolling multiple adds. That's what you do when you exhaust the content; "end-game content" comprises things that your character can do once it reaches the maximum level.

And you'll probably be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn't been snuck up on and one-shot by a Strider. or had one spawn on their head and annihilate them.

Uh... ya. $20 is not $2. The extra 0 means a lot. Regardless, the game sucks.

You must have misunderstood me because i did not say "that side of hte game sucks" cause if a part of hte game sucks i would not be playing it. I said i was already informed about the direction of the game, so many things i see many people complain about does not really make sence, but i did agree on a few of your notes, just not the overall text you wrote. Making excuses for the lack of a respec system I'm not making exuses as i do not need to make excuses for a respec system, as far i'm consurned respec should NOT even be a option in a MMORPG.....thats just personal, and thats because it makes players lazy not the game. by blaming players for not planning ahead with knowledge of skills that they couldn't possible have until they tested them out? Thats the thing these day's people don't want to communicate ingame to ask for help, but many times people just start yelling and blaming the game for their own playstyle. Again not defending the game here but pure showing that it's a playstyle that is in the way for some people it seems in my opinion.

And really, "end-game content" is NOT rerolling multiple adds. That's what you do when you exhaust the content; "end-game content" comprises things that your character can do once it reaches the maximum level. I never said the my view on endgame is fact i said in my opinion and the way I personaly view endgame, again the term endgame should not even be in MMORPG, but hey i know i'm niche and i'm sure that i'm the minority in how i personaly play this genre....don't worry....

And you'll probably be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn't been snuck up on and one-shot by a Strider. or had one spawn on their head and annihilate them. I'm positive that this happend, again i was NOT saying it does not happen, but due to my own experaince it must happen to those unaware of their ability's/gear/weapons/skills that can be used to counter them.

I bought mu copy on ebay for 5 bucks, after that I bought 6 more for friends and family.  Money well spent.. So far I am loving it. It's exactly the break i was looking for from games where the combat is something that simply has to be endured to obtain a reward.  I have so much fun actually doing the missions, or just defending bases or killing endless waves of aliens that leveling and loot are happy side-effects.

I really think a lot of people play games in the beta and then trash it forever based on the look behind the curtain... with all the ugly parts exposed.  I played the game in beta and didn't really care for it.  It ran so bad I couldn't make myself play very long at all.  I only bought it now because I was really bored and it was five bucks.  The difference is really night and day... but don't take my word for it, lay down 5 bucks and find out. :)

I just want to point out that they are adding unlimited respecs in the next patch. One for skills and one for attributes. Using control points as the way to acquire them. Pretty genius actually. It will give players more motivation to socialize, b/c as is it's far to easy to solo. Personally, I think it's a MUCH needed change for the game.

Still though, the classes are unbalanced, the crafting system is in desperate need of rebalance and the lack 'rewarding' effort of grouping leaves the game lack luster.

It's been said thousands of times about this game, but it's true: The potential is there to be an epic MMOG, but the implementation was poorly handled.

I strongly agree. Tabula Rasa is looking to be that big MMO and join the ranks of WoW or LotRO, but the developers need to get their act togethor; decide on a goal, work towards that goal, and achieve it, not have goals all over the place.

After getting the tip from OP, I headed to eBay and got it for $8.26 (Collector's Edition) and was free shipping!

I couldn't say no to it being so cheap, so flame me now :P

lol  another satisfied Pablum Rasa customer.  A few minutes in to the game and thinks it is still wonderful.

Even if he is in for a shock of how terrible this game is after a few days of playing.  He is correct about free markets being wonderful for getting the best price for the goods/services we want.

However, Economics 101 suggests that this is another point adding to the evidence that this game is the financial disaster that the company's own CFO sobbed about uncontrollably.

After all, ceteris paribus, we can assume that they have not increased production of the CDs for this horrid game, and the price as spoken of in calculus terms is approaching zero, therefore the demand for this steaming pile of an MMO is in free-fall.

I say good.  The sooner this game drops dead the better.  The coins wasted on this will be better used by better companies to produce better games.

why flame you , I paid $49.99 on preorder I dont regret it one bit . I would still pay $49.99 right now if I was to go out and buy this game, even after playing it since beta. I am still have having a blast with it.

Thats all that matters to me.
