Pirates of the Burning Sea

I uh past tense was a fan of POTBS.  I paid them money and loyally preordered and have paid them subscription fees.   A couple of days ago a guy decided he was going to take a dislike to me and start spamming their site with "bounty" posters for ingame bounties.

I report it along with a few other people as harassment.   At the same time he aslso downloaded my website for material to make the bounty poster.   I was somewhat shocked.  He spent 24 hours spaming every single forum with this.  Finally I think its over and then a dev comes on and tells him he can post his so called "bounty" in the marketting forum.   I respond to the bounty and say its harassment and griefing and that i have had to delete my toons.   The next day he posts yet another thread okay now he is harassing and spamming.  What happens when i report this as the guy now admits to having no real reason to doing this stuff other then "he can".  Its not game driven or character driven he is after the player behind the monitor and is willing to make their ingame life hell and forum life hell for his own amusement.  Unfortunately I can't put the guy on ignore as he has downloaded my website onto his computer and i have to monitor his so called bounties for stolen stuff.   

I report his spam they lock the old thraad and leave the new one open .  Again condoning it as "okay" even though at this point the characters are long gone so his only reason for posting to to engage in forum harassment.  The dev comes on and again says "its okay".

Is there anyone that writes about this kind of stuff?

I thought fls was smarter then this but they can't even be bothered so i ahve had to toss the game in the garbage and move on.  I was about to start playing Bey's retreat but because of some jerk who gets his rocks off I had to remove my characters and forget about the game.

The guy is quite insane and having fun he reminds me of one of those guys who you see stereotyped the little film living in a dark room plotting how to make people's lives miserable.  The funny thing is he doesn't even pvp from what I can tell and I"m not realy a pvp'er so he put a bounty on someone who will be ganked and camped till the cows come home.   Due to the way the game is set up its unavoidable.

I do believe that fls has either lost it or never hard it as they appear now to be supporting griefers! 

I know the drama from Bonny server and I am not going to say who, if anyone, is right in this issue.

Fact of the matter is that POTBS with its "the art of gank" approach supports player griefing.

I must admit I read this thread and the related threads on the FLS boards with interest.

The first thing that caught my attention was that pre-release FLS would not support any type of Bounty system IIRC because it was open to too many exploits?

But this issue does show (once again) FLS's inexperience in the whole mmoRPG area.

The player placing the "bounty" is acting well outside any pretence of 'role play' as he first bounties multiple characters and then openly admits to placing the bounty on characters in-game due to the actions of the player in the forum out of game.

FLS for their part seem unclear on the simple(?) concepts of IC (In Character) and OOC (Out Of Character) which most RPG players are very well aware of?

It also shows once again (sadly) that FLS does not appreciate how their community management in the forums can and will effect the in-game community and vice versa.
I was interested to see the player state - "FLS has pleaded with me... " which shows they don't have control of their player base.  If they want the issue to end it should have been "Here's your x-day BAN.  Have a nice day."

Many of the design ideas I read for this game (pre-release) suggested to me that FLS was working on the assumption that players would somehow behave honourably / nicely / fairly (?).  As most MMO players know - this is something that you cannot rely on.

 Its not really about "who is right" its simply about facts.    The facts speak for themselves its up to readers to judge who is right that is how news about anything is reported. 

Anyhow I have sent some emails but not sure who to even ask.  All I know is that some guy was grasping at straws today about some incident or other that took place in a post that was made that I can't even remember.  I guess I disagreed with him once before..

If anyone has names let me know.

 heh something fishy going on a post suddenly disappears in the middle of one of the threads so as to make it look like i'm replying to myself.  users can't delete their own posts to my knowledge.  I"m beginning to wonder why this guy is allowed to carry on the way he has.. (hehe yeah they can the user is madly going back and deleting all his stuff) no nothing is going on here and the user is completely sane and not using fls and its ignorance (/endsarcasm)

Oh I am not arguing, the fellow with whom you skirmished has ganker reputation to my knowledge. If people really care to do so they can dig through server forums and find similar incidents.

Oddly enough if you tried pulling a stunt like that (for example naming another player's alts without him/her publicly stating them) would get you at least three day ban in WoW. My personal opinion is that this is just another incident of FLS' lack of professionalism. Each to its own though.

Sounds like 2 kids having at it in the playground to me. Learn to ignore, Learn not reply, Learn not to continue posting about it, You get the picture.

heh well if i had been actualy posting threads and starting things I might agree but I have not.  I"m simply looking for a news type person who likes to dig and uncover what is.  Someone has replied to me via email they will dig and find what is.   Now "what it sounds like" .  I know what is already however you see since I was involved its pretty hard to umm write as an objective person.

They obviously support ganking as it is a key part of red circle PvP strategy so it's pretty obvious that Potbs is going to attract griefers - sad but true.

FLS DrewC has suggested that players work out how to play unfairly to their advantage.

So apparently it is not OK to upset people with historical facts but it is perfectlly OK to upset them with griefing.
