And Ultima IX at the top... oh that brings back pain to me. I was the worlds biggest Ultima fan. I played U7 alone 30 times through. And then the pain, the betrayal, the evil that was Ultima IX. It was indeed the most botched PC game launch, and never recovered.  A deep fall from great heights.

VG fits well into that list.

Played them all agree with... well most of it. I do htink Matrix Online shoud have a spot somewhere there as well, but if not it should at least hold the number 6 spot. Good list, very truthful

Oh, I still have the game laying around and its one of my few games I have never had the urge to reinstall.  It truly killed the Ultima franchise.  Another game I could debate being in the top 5 was Anarchy Online.  That game was just as bad a launch as WW2 Online was.  You could do hours worth work and have the game spike, and actually lag you backwards before all that work was done.  I and several friends quit it because we lost so much time in just the first couple weeks, it was like we hadn't done a thing.

I could name other game launches, but they did do a pretty good job with this list.

Anarchy Online should be on this list as it had a horrible launch

MANY MANY pc game launches botch and some (Fury) are better known that others (system shock 2).. They should have said the top 5 most well KNOWN bothced pc game launches and perhaps the list would be better recieved...

I think the fact that they didn't list SWG on here is pretty amazing.  The game servers flat out didn't work on release!  No one could get online, and even when they could it was laggy for quite a while (even before CU).

that list is crap.  They missed a ton of aweful game launches.  AO is without question the worst game launch ever and it didn't even make the list.  For that matter where is horizon, shadowbane both were pretty damn bad certainly worse then VG. 

This list isn't all the great and 1Up needs to go back and look at the history of PC games.   There were far worse launches in games like AO, Shadowbane, Horizons I can go on.   So this article looses all credibility in my eyes.

I agree that they missed some games that deserved to be on list more than some that are. Case of Dark and Light for example, the game was a disaster since beta untill today! LOL First time i installed i used to have BSOD every 10-15 min. What a nightmare.

What a horrible horrible list. THe site lost all the credibility it could possibly have. The one who wrote it obviously is very very young if he doesn't even remember the launch of not so old video game Pool of Radiance Ruins of Myth Drannor that could wipe your operating system or a launch of Elder Scrolls II - Daggerfall that was just unplayable. And there are tons of other examples that would fit there more than steam 2, vanguard or even hellgate.
