While I was posting in the Pilot thread, their fix really is about specific figures and did not need much work to complete (on my end, on QA's end they're working like nuts, I'm sure).  So, I worked on the stance (light side) side of the tree yesterday.  I'm almost complete with it and hope to finish it today.

Luckily, I will be spending more time working on Jedi than the original quote that I mentioned at the beginning of our discussions, so we'll be seeing a lot more done than originally quoted.  Also, we have more than one designer working on Jedi and we have had a programmer go through and fix some bugs for  y'all.

Now, I mentioned before that you are getting two new abilities.  These are actually special actions.  Behind the scenes, you're getting more than two new abilities.  Added to the left side of the tree is a new box called "Perceptive Sentinel".  This box adds a further 5% per point spent up to 20% hate generation on top of your stance buff.  Let me know your thoughts on that addition.  It's a prerequisite for Forsake Fear (taking the place of Soothing Aura, which moved further down the tree to Tier 5, as Soothing Aura is too powerful to be a Tier 2 box).

Anticipate Aggression is now 2 points and is a reduction of 4% per point (8% maximum from 6%).

Later today, I will be adding a new passive ability Riposte and active ability Saber Reflect.

So, we'll be looking at four new additions to the left side of the Path tree.  While I'm working furiously over the last three boxes today, discuss! :)

Soothing Aura is a "must have" ability because it increases the Jedi heal to 10K.  The Jedi heal is already on the slowest recharge timer (25 seconds) and in actuality isn't much more than other professions as a result.  Without that ability Jedi has the worst heal of any profession on the longest cooldown timer.

As with all really really stupid decisions the Devs make, I hope this goes in as advertised, that they IGNORE the hundreds (in the old days it would have been thousands but the subs are way down since then) of flames they will get over this, because it will result in more cancelations and hence, hasten the end of the NGE.

This sort of Jedi expertise change will greatly narrow the already very small number of choices for the "respec" era Jedi, thus mooting any changes they make, since Defense+healing is ALWAYS > offense in any MMO.

The reason why Jedi had a better heal in the first place was that as the LONE meele profession you have to close to a ridiculously short range while being shot.

Again, fantastic change to the game from my point of view.  Doing this sort of thing to the most "iconic" and "Star Wars-Y" of all the Iconic 9 professions serves my agenda (of wanting the NGE to close) very well, indeed, is just the sort of move I'd make myself if I were smuggled into the Dev team and tried to sabotage it on purpose.

Two thumbs up, and great job, Hanse!  Stick to your guns and don't let them talk you out of it!  Your boss Blixtev will no question have your back on this one, since he gets to relive the "good ole days" of the CU when he got to nerf to uselessness an ability of the earned Alpha Class every single publish.

To the players who still play the NGE:  WHENEVER the Devs talk of profession "changes", watch your backside.  Nerfs are what you always get.  How else can they keep the unbroken streak of each update being worse than the one before alive?

When will enough be enough?

I love it.  SOE always dumps bad news onto players on a Friday (that's when you fire people), it's the worst possible day because it gives them 2 days to get madder and madder and go /cancel.

I think they do this to float trial balloons to see what they can get away with (such as the earlier attempt at a heal nerf, the recent attempt to block nerf, etc).

If this is what they are doing, this is a very VERY bad way to get research from your customers.  First off, even if you take it back in the end, you will still have lost customers over it (and the NGE can't afford to lose anyone).  Secondly, it makes your management look even more incompetent, since anyone with half a brain SHOULD have known how such nuclear changes would be reacted to.

They never have officially ever even acknowledged that what they did on 15 November to be a mistake, just nuanced non apologies about "it was bad timing, we needed to communicate better, etc".

Unless you have unequivocably acknowledged a mistake as a mistake, you really can't learn from it, and thus, fail to repeat it.

Which they have done multiple times since the NGE, which has helped keep that subscriber cliff dive going strong.  Examples:  Jedi expertise regifting of existing abilities, the CH6 combat nerf, the CH7 change of expensive SEA's, etc etc etc.

This is why it's SO theraputic that I don't play any more, these mindless nerfs used to set me off.  Now I can sit back and laugh, at the idiots in charge who seem incapable of learning how to avoid sticking their fingers in the light socket even after the 9th time being shocked.  I do feel sympathy for the victims (the current players) but there is a positive in that huge blunders like this WILL result in more of them being finally liberated from the NGE and SOE.

Which is a good thing.

As an aside, once something has BEEN IN THE GAME for almost 2 years (the Jedi 10K heal) and had virtually everything designed around it (such as the Jedi role in tanking Foozle) how is it even an issue that needs "fixing"?

Answer:  It doesn't.  But because whatever crap they are designing at this moment won't work without doing it, what they did back then gets destroyed, just like the Medic rez ability...

Which is the kind of short sighted thinking that only leads to more problems tomorrow when today's expediency breaks whatever they want to do then.  This speaks volumes about this team's complete lack of anything approaching a vision or plan.

Which falls into the lap of the managers.  Toilet Boy, Deadmeat, Cao, and ultimately, Smed.

Then again, how can you have a vision that stretches beyond "today" for a game that might not be here tomorrow?

They consistently underestimate the intelligence of their audience, and the result eventually will be they'll be desperately looking for a job that they're qualified for, which means fierce competition from high school kids at the local Wendy's.

HAHAHA! I guess I would be upset if I knew what the hell that was, and I still played the game. Is it a big name for "Heal"?

Even when I did play the NGE I gave up on trying to memorize the names of anything, I just looked at the fucking icon since readin was bad. My elder Jedi was pretty much dead the day he became an elder Jedi so I gave up trying.

What I find funny is that the community manager signature has pictures of the old profession characters icons from the old official prima strat guide like the Bothan Pistoleer doesn't she realise that soe killed all those professions long ago.  Also on the one post Hanse states that he will not check out the forums if they were all negative post w/o a positive solution.  Well either he has been blind or illiterate for the past two years to still be posting.  Not an SOE hater at all just wish they would give me a star wars game to enjoy again.  I am still seeking something to hold my intrest and pull me away from wow which gives me no thrills like any form of swg did except  the nge.

SO like the NGE...  And what got so many of us (like me) forum banned, but as per their greedy cowardice, NOT EVER account banned...  They can't stand criticism.. They want affirmation.   As if they ARE the Dev gods they think they are.

They aren't.  They are stupid morons who have no clue as to what they are doing, no idea as to what got them to where they are... 

And anyone who calls them on that must be supressed.  Hanse, keep your "criticize my GODLIKE GENIUS I QUIT TALKING TO YOU" attitude.  I beg you.

That attitude only helps my agenda, which is the END of the NGE...  By it closing.

Of coarse this happens when I re-sub to the game... and I was just about to make a post about how I re-subbed to SWG and have been enjoying it... I started a new char (Jedi) on a server that actually has some players on it and had my template all planned out and now I'm gonna get shafted... what in the sam hell bloody f*ck burger is this sh*t?

 

They really do want this game to die... there's no more fooling yourself.

Doesn't matter when you started playing or DO play.  SOE will betray you because they lack the ability to know better or DO better. 

No one who plays SWG has escaped the wrath of SOE's developer incompetence.

Too bad you never earned Jedi when you had your 226 SP's and could choose among:

Lightsaber...  Defender... Healer...  Powers.... Enhancer...

Hanse (who isn't even 24 years old) would break down and cry like a good worthless post 1980 born millineal if asked to bring that back.

You are better off than me for that.

I used to have a very personal attachment to my far less than opitmal Pre NGE Bothan Jedi.

Best to not ever go after anything challenging in a SOE game, they will only nerf it to worthlessness and give it out in a desperate attempt to get new customers.

In EVE, when asked about what happened to SWG, I describe it as such:

Imagine if you worked your way to a Titan (which takes a year and over $10,000 US dollars worth of ISK)..  Having it given out to EVERYONE who subscribes as a noob ship, and it's strength nerfed to the level of a noob ship.

Playing a Jedi in the NGE really isn't that fun and exciting as I imagine it would have been if I played one pre NGE... but if they kept the village, eventually everyone who wanted one would have had one and that would be highly bogus for players that didn't want to unlock Jedi.

 

They should have implemented a much better unlock system than they did and kept it secret... I remember trying all kinds of things before light was shed on the profession grind... although I should have known it was something completely retarded as that. If the unlock system still was secret and people who unlocked didn't know how they did it, there would now probably only be a handful of Jedi a server as initially intended.

 

Having an Alpha class in a MMO was all around just a bad idea, but no doubt made SOE more money than they would have made without the Jedi bait.

 

SOE blamed the IP for their problems but everyone knows that's a ton of bullsh*t.

 

Oh well... days gone by.

On one hand, having an alpha class is a bad idea for an MMO.
