Ok, I love this game.. But it's gotten old... c'mon coh is 3 years old, cov is what 2? They are GIVING away so many free trails because there getting not many people wana play it anymore... time for then to drop the 15 bux a month price to 5 bux a month IMO, I myself refuse to pay for more then 1 MMO, I have in the passed payed for 2 but only for a short time.. But that said, i might be willing to drop 5 bux a month on a Back-up mmo for when i get board.. untill then.. i rather pay my 15 bux a month for something thats new and not re-hashed... |

What a fantastic offer for people who haven't played the game! As of May, I'll have been playing this (and many other MMOs) for the past 4 years. 4 years and the team that's running the show now couldn't be better. Many are ex-Cryptic employees who's creative ideas were held back while Jack Emmert focused on Marvel Universe Online (now Champions Online). Since breaking away from Cryptic, Matt Miller (Positron) and company have done an outstanding job breathing new life into City of Heroes/Villains. If you haven't taken a look at City of Heroes, you definitely deserve to give it a shot. It still has one of the best MMO combat systems around. Enjoy! |

Originally posted by SylvanusI feel exactly the opposite. Almost every idea brought by Miller and crew has made me enjoy the game less. I'm very excited about Champions because I know Emmert is twenty times the designer Miller will ever hope to be. For those who haven't tried CoH, I still think they should. It's still a pretty good game, even in its decline. Just do yourself a favor and start on the Hero side. The Villain side is a terrible gameplay experience. |

I am gamer. Hear me click. |
Do I have to buy the game if I choose to stay beyond the trial period? Or, can I just pay a monthly subscription if I choose to continue past the trial? |
|
| Currently playing: No MMOs. They all suck. |

Originally posted by MChavez I believe you do, but it comes with a "free" month. Most places have it from $10-$20. Though you may be encouraged to purchase it from the NCSoft Store, you don't have to. Hope that helps! :) |

Originally posted by Hexxeity You're definitely entitled to your opinion. Now, "knowing" Emmert's a better designer? That's your opinion as well. :) I respect him and thank him for helping bring a game I and many others love forward. It wasn't a perfect journey though and many mistakes (admitted in some cases) were made. That doesn't detract from the good things that came out of CoH/V. To my knowledge, this is Matt Miller's first go as a designer. Give him a chance. So far, all the Issue releases up to Issue 12 were under Cryptic's wing. If you don't care for the "Quality of Life" improvements (real numbers for combat, xp & level smoothing, redesign of some of the existing areas - basically doing their best to improve the player's experience) he and the team have already implemented (ones that many have approved of, might I add), keep in mind their projects without the watchful eye of Cryptic will not come to fruition until Issue 13. Also, you might want to keep in mind that Champions Online and CoH/V will likely play very differently. Some might find themselves preferring the gameplay of one over another. Personally, I'm happy for both. As stated earlier, I'm very happy with the direction NCSoft North (Miller & Co.) are taking and I'm eager to see how Champions Online turns out. While I respect Emmert's work, that doesn't mean that I'm going to gush over it without a thought. So far, they've started out just like they did with CoH. They've put out a whole bunch of ideas that sound awesome. Hopefully they'll see the light of day this time around. I hope nothing but the best for both Cryptic and NCSoft North. :) |

Recent issues may have been "under Cryptic's wing" as you say, but it is unlikely Emmert had much to do with them. As you said yourself, he's been working on other projects. The "quality of life" changes don't bother me at all, actually. What bothers me are the numerous small changes that add up to a game experience that is not as good as it could be. Actually, with the quality of life stuff thrown in (which is good), it's probably a wash. The zone revamps are good -- War Witch knows what she's doing. She has learned from her (massive) CoV mistakes. I don't think Positron has.
Examples of changes I don't care for: the new Blaster Defiance, Flashback missions, blast power normalization, Trick Arrow -- the worst thing ever to happen to the game ... like I said, many little things, a lot of which I'm sure you'll say were things "the community" desperately wanted. What I'm saying is I like a developer who is willing, from time to time, to stand up to the vocal minority that calls itself "the community." |
