I think about this from time to time...

Will we ever see another STARWARS mmorpg Franchise again? That's assuming that the whole BIOWARE / KOTOR thing is a complete hoax, what are the chances? To me any SW game is a cash-cow in this day and age. I mean what would it take to make this happen? It's been years since the horrid NGE struck the game down. I just can't understand why we are not seeing or hearing anything SW-MMO related.

I suppose even if they made another SW mmorpg...it would some FPS piece of shit with no depth or complexity.

    I can't see one not coming out.   I do believe the Bioware/LA project is the new 'unamed SW:O' but whether is KotOR based or not. .../shrug   

 My latest issue/fear is with the industries GDC '08 focus on console releases over PC's though.   If you've noticed LA, itself, hasn't been very PC friendly lately and Bioware is only releasing Mass Effect for pc sometime over the next couple months.

 In short, if it isn't a multi-platform simultaneous release, I'll likely be on to another title that's out for the pc and that's saying a lot for someone who got into pc's for LA titles.  PC'er since '94 and not going back to console gaming, ever.

I kinda see it like the "castle in the swamp".

Several are going to have to fail because of flaws, before the final one doesn't sink into the swamp.

This will entail going with something like Pre CU and unlike WOW.

   God I hope so, all I play is MMO's, and I haven't played SWG for well over three years now and I still miss it. But that may be only because I'm a Star Wars geek. I was talking to the manager at my local gamestop, and he was saying that Bioware is supposedly working on a SWG game. But he said it was more based on the knights of the old republic.

so from these three sources  i gather that the team up between LA and Bioware is no hoax

and it very well may take place in the KOTOR universe/timeline lets just hope its good!

I thought the latest rumor had LA pulling the licensing from Bioware and returning it to SOE? Meaning either expansion on SWG or a new SW MMO by SOE.

ive heard something like that to, but i cant find any proof that it happened if you could find me a link/press release or something i would greatly appreciate it.

I really hope there is another Star Wars mmorpg someday but if LucasArts was smart they would shut down SWG and wait at least five years before starting work on it. Unfortunately for them the stigma of the NGE is going to haunt them for a long time.

I wouldn't wait 5 years...by that time the MMO scene will have entirely changed, id say start development before cutting SWG and THEN release the new game and kill SWG within the same weak. A kinda "Rome burning as Byzantium rises" feel put onto the whole thing. As for how the game would work... idk...only thing i would think about keeping from SWG is the flight combat system....that was fairly fun.

Well, I'm sure there will be another attempt at a Star Wars MMO.

However, the chance is very high that it will be another big failure. If BioWare indeed is making a new SW MMO then I really don't understand why they are willing to take such a huge risk? Chances are rather high that it will bring BW and their once good reputation down in the fall.

Now why am I saying this? There are a lot of factors in the loop and I list some of them here.

• Because LucasArst has to be involved in any potential SW MMO means that it's most likely doomed already!
• The corpse smell of SWG is still around and won't go away anytime soon, meaning that the "things" that happened to the old game of SWG will make people stay away. Also, despite whatever LucasArts may think, most MMO players does not have a short memory!
• The Star Wars IP in the gaming industry is simply not as big as LucasArts would like to think it is!
• The MMO game scene is very different today compared to what is was like 6 - 7 years ago. What I'm trying to say is that how many new MMO's has had a successfull start since WoW came to dominate MMO gaming?

I'm sure there are a lot more factors as to why any potential new SW MMO would have to face severe difficulties to succeed as a long term game,

Sad to say I think the old game of SWG was and will most likely remain the closest and best attempt at a successfull Star Wars MMO ever... Well, I hope I'm wrong, but I don't keep any hopes up!
