The Folks at Guid Wars have posted an update on their current real money trading policy and their efforts to curb these activities.

It is our goal to provide an enjoyable experience to every Guild Wars player. That's why we take the topic of real-money trading (buying and selling gold or in-game items for real-world money) very seriously. Every week, we ban thousands of accounts used by real-money trading companies, because those companies harm the game for other players by running large networks of bots to farm gold and items, spamming chat channels with their advertisements, and even attempting to steal login credentials from unsuspecting players.

Why we crack down on real-money trading

Real-money trading and related activities such as botting and spamming are breaches of the User Agreement and Rules of Conduct. These rules help protect the entire Guild Wars community from abuse by providing a set of guidelines for fair play that allow all players to enjoy the game. Real-money trading activities negatively impact the fun of many players.

  Nice that they are, in the past & are still now, trying to combat this, but it was allowed to flourish too long ago.  The economy is inflated already partially because of these activities & some because of natural growth.  Sad testament that it seems every MMORPG goes through this challenge.

  As a business themselves they've crunched the numbers & are happy with continuing this up & down tide type of excercise about RMT stuff.  Those folks at GW make $ either way they handle it.  It's the regular game-playing player that suffers the most.

  GW can be fun, sure there's the arguement that it's not a true MMORPG, but it's what you make of it.  I enjoyed it till I had to stop for a few months then tried to come-back after an expansion.  The incline on the economy was steep, & the journey getting another toon to 20 just wasn't as enjoyable, but as lengthy.

  Definitely a good game though for the PvPers & for the PvE aspect the botters/farmers, & the power-gamers.  A regular player seems to get over-looked a bit.  That seems a general perspective though of most MMORPGs rooting back to Everquest.

I've not encountered much spamming by gold sellers at all in GW, which I consider a good sign. I've always hated gold selling, and it's good to see that Arena Net shares my view on it.

The thing that made me stop GW was that it became so hard to get money to buy anything. Especially when dyes and crafting mats for outfits started going into double digit plats. They *could* help this by resetting the market every so often. Reduce the cost of the black and white dyes, the gems and shards and what not down to the price they were when the game first launched.

They nerfed farming to try to curb the bot-farmers but all that did was piss off the real players and make it harder to get money.

I play game from beta. Never before get money in GW was so easy!
If you have EoTN just go Ursan way to all High End areas. You can easy solo in Hard Mode with any profession.

Farming is somewhat harder but not by much as someone posted above Eye of the north is best for farming these days. Also black/white dye has always been expensive from launch infact black dye has halved in price since they added the white dye.
