Star Wars Galaxies designer Jesse "Loche" Benjamin has produced a dev diary detailing the colored props and instruments which were added to the game with Game Update 2.

Hey all, this is Jesse "Loche" Benjamin, a designer on Star Wars Galaxies. In this dev diary, I will discuss the new colored props and instruments I added to the game in Game Update 2.

During our brainstorming for entertainer update, I saw that one of the top 5 issues entertainers listed was diversity. So I brainstormed ways to make entertainers more diverse.

The obvious and most likely way to do this was to allow the coloring of instruments and props. These items can help two bands or troupes of entertainers differentiate themselves even if they are using the same instruments or props.

The first step to achieving this goal was to attach color palettes to the instruments. I decided to use the same palette for all instruments.

Below is a screenshot of a nalargon before I added the coloring of instruments.

Between the velvet lies
There''s a truth as hard as steel.

I'm curious to know if that was what entertainers had in mind when they said they wanted diversity- different instrument colors?

I would have thought tha by diversity they wanted something more meaningful like hybrid professions again.

SWG, CoX, WoW, Vanguard, EQ, EQ2, GW, Eve, and many betas.

Like a heal?  hahaha

Problem was there for a long time (post NGE) that two types of players were playing the profession..  people who only wanted RP, and people who wanted to buff friends or characters on their primary accounts.  The RP crowd seemingly hijacked every concept thread that would have done something meaningful with the profession, and the buffers could care less.  Whenever someone outside of the profession would give feedback, you'd have the overly vocal anti-combatant RP people telling everyone eles that they've been playing the profession for 'x' amount of years and the people outside of the profession have no right giving feedback because they obviously don't care about the profession.  So these people kind of locked everyone else out, and kept the profession a concept that met their needs.

The nature of Updates X dont allow for more than cosmetic changes to any item that is related to a profession.

However, Entertainer has been on the whole ignored because the majority who put in responces generally don't want things to interrupt their form of play.  Some form of Entertainer Quest line should be allowed to give them an alternative to gaining xp.  This would, however, interrupt the social aspect that the RP group enjoy.

This is a case that the profession is not that big of a concern since there are so few playing. Those that play who care about thier experiance don't want to be bothered with learning any other aspect of SWG.

Is this a generalization?  Yep, and I know many who would take acception but there are just not enough of population in the profession to get more dev notice.  I would love for a Drama Entertainer to be viable in the field but its just not there.  No heal, no special bonus, no interest from the devs for more support.

Back when my wife was playing, that definately wasn't one of her requests, nor was it of her friends there with her.. interesting what they deem important..

Now they are going to spraypaint the deck chairs on the SWG Titanic instead of just moving them around.
