Final Fantasy XI

How easy is it for a new player to find groups missions and such?  Stuff all the vets would have done completely by now.

I played FFXI when it was first released.  I was one of the first few NA's on my server to have a level 75 BLM on the Fairy server.  I was in an end-game guild which did HNM camping and gods, etc.  I got bored eventually and usually helped people with their genkai 1 when I had nothing better to do.  I left a couple months after Warcraft was released.

I am tempted to come back in since I am tired of waiting on AoC\Warhammer to be released-- and who isn't to say they could be delayed AGAIN!

Things that I was worried about:

Mission groups, both regular and expansion ones.

Leveling up.  I know you can solo, but that seems a bit difficult and to the untrained-- costly.

 (There was some other stuff but I am having a brain fart.)

Well, I've been playing for over 2 years and i'm on CoP 2-3, Whitegate mission 14, Zilart 5, and Bastok mission 8-1.  So, seriously doubt you'll have too much of a problem.  Get a good LS and they can help you through 90% of what i just listed.

Also, you can TECHNICALLY solo to about 26, but trust me, you don't want to. You can solo to 10 and go to Valkrum Dunes (I go at 15).  You can get PL'ed as well but LS's generally wont do it for new people as they leave quickly.

And no, you cant get to 75 solo.  With BST you can solo a whole lot but, trust me, you want to party, it is a LOT more fun and there generally isn't a big problem with getting parties after a while (you might have issues being low level and no sub job and low rank missions = noob that people avoid).

Well I know how soloing and such works.   I did play the game quite a bit.  Enough to have those level 20 rare Ranger boots, Peacock Necklace, and one of those other expensive-ass items.

I definitely don't want to be "powerleveled" and such by an LS and I was just wondering about grouping :P

@Suplyndmnd: You can solo to 75. any job can if you know what you are doing and know how. (BST pets ftw!)

Missions can easly be done. all you have to do is get in a decent linkshell ask for help or /sh in whitegate for help on a mission. for instance i finally got unlazy and did windy 9-2 last night and after 3 years finally got rank 10. shout for mission b/c people will always have to do them and they will prabablly have friends that can come help if you can get more to come.

That's what I'm looking for... storyline missions to complete.  I was rank 10 in Windurst and I was quite impressed with the story leading up to the end... I only got a little into promy but I did enjoy it.  The promyvion theme is one of my favorite FF songs of all time.

I don't necessarily want to be ran through, mind you!  I was just wondering about how many people are LFG for such things usually?

It's really tricky about the mission thing. For Zilart and CoP i'd say it depends on the LS.

Many LS that want to have end game do the missions for those 2 because they are required for access on Sky and Sea.

ToAU it's easier to find random groups in general.

Nation Missions are tricky at the last parts where you have to be with members of the same nation.

Also, with the rank missions, it's fairly easy to find people because everyone *wants* to do them (well, most everyone) and you can just do a search for everyone from your nation, same rank, and even start up a static mission party (which i did).

It seems to happen in waves now,where as you will stumble onto the exact same players everyday.If you happen to miss that wave for even one day,then it could take a week before a new wave of players come along in your level range.

The solution is such a simple one i can't believe nobody at SQUARE or any other game for that matter havn't figured it out.Instead of having ONLY the job/level you are playing able to seek out a party,there should be a sort of advertising board,where you can post as many jobs and there level you are willing to party with for the day.It opens a lot more options to everyone,instead of just /sea all for level 25-28,you would get a whole list of players including those on there 75 jobs that would be willing to level there 25-28.

This way players could still look posh in there 75 gear but would be listed on the board willing to level several jobs over several levels.I know how rough it is for those 75 to have to sit seeking in 25 gear lmao.
