The US economy was stagnant under Carter, mostly due to the oil crisis.  It wasn’t until the early 80’s under Reagan that the economy really went south.  81-83 were the worst years economically since the great depression, and the middle class suffered badly through the 80’s.  Currently economics and politics are very much 80’s lite. 

Well, in my young American life... I think that we will exists for a lot longer than 10 years. There has yet to be a war that we have lost, except possible the Vietnam War. Even that, we did not lose, but rather withdrew our troops and let the Vietnamese brawl themselves.

That could be argued that we did or did not accomplish our task in Vietnam. Although the communists did come out victorious, our goals were changed during the war. We wanted to get out of there as soon as possible, so our goal then was to train the south Vietnamese to fight for themselves. We accomplished that, but they still got their asses kicked hard.

The only other thing I question is this.... If the government really did have plans on raining in all the "cowboys", I think they would have banned, outlawed, and collected all of our guns by now. Heh lets see the Canadian army try to enforce martial law in my community.

As I agree with some of your info....i think if we asked the elite banking family of Bear Stearns if they tried to make their stock go from 171 a share to 2. Doubt it. The economy is a cyclical beast which, try as they might, the fed can manipulate some aspects of it, they can only postpone the inevitable recession.

JP Morgan ended up buying Bear Stearns for about 10 cents on the dollar. This is what these elite banking families do. This was no accident but rather by design.

Oh and the US Supreme Court just announced theyre taking a case that will review the Second Amendment. It wont surprise me one bit if they interpret the 2nd amendment to mean something other than allowing citizens gun ownership. Its the first time in history that the Supreme court will rule on the meaning of this amendment

Not that it really matters anyway. The coming merger with Mexico and Canada will mean a new Consitution. We will have no rights guaranteed under this new document and the govt will have the right to strip any rights given at any time.

Under our current Constitution, the people are BORN with certain inalienable rights. The govt cant grant us these rights because we are born with them. And the govt cant take them away.

However under the proposed NAU Constitution, its the govt that will grant the people its rights and its the govt that can take them away.

America isn't a place, rather it's an idea. An idea that one owns one's self, one's labor and time as property. That no other may seek any portion of it as their property without trade. Yet, today, that idea is out of fashion, it is considered old and tired, and some even claim it's impractical. But ideas like these don't really die, they simply find new minds to inhabit. For me it is sad to say that those that claim to be Americans don't house the idea of America anymore. And to me, they are the ones who are dead, not the idea.

namely the big corporations, they want to maximize their profits and minimize their work force

and they can charge much less for that product.. because it costs them so much less to produce it

I'm from Michigan, we don't have to be told our state is in a financial crisis, it's nearly impossible to get work here- people who were tradesmen plumbers, union, used to make 50 dollars an hour are unable to find work..
having to accept a job at lowes for 9.50 an hour.. because contractors hire illegal aliens to do the same job(shoddily) for 5 dollars an hour..
our automotive manfacturers minimized their work force in a short period of time to try and keep up with other countries, they outsourced a lot of their labor and production which resulted in 67000 automotive jobs lost, thats however many jobs that need to be replaced... so we have an overabundance of unemployed people looking for work, an overabundance of people on unemployment, jobs are impossible to find..
and I'm sure its like this in other areas of the nation as well

Gas is up to $3.40 a gallon where i live may be more or less for you but some of us have to travel more than 20 miles to work every day and that's a little bite out of our paychecks whereas the oil companies are enjoying record profits

i know very little about the economics involved in the housing slump so
people took out mortgages based on an adjustable rate which was very much a scam
in my humble opinion as these homeowners would end up paying for the rest of their lives
a lot of people were defaulting and banks were losing money as housing prices plummeted
i guess i foresaw this years ago when it seemed like housing prices couldnt go up anymore
they will have nothing to do but fall.. because it's really a buyer's market not a seller's market as it was advertised oh so many times on tv
people just realized hell I'm not paying 3/4 of a million dollars for this crack house in the middle of Phoenix I'll move somewhere else and get a nice house for 250,000 dollars
and the so called "Demand" as it seemed was weakened

what we need is ..
a president who isn't a crook(see Barack Obama)
weakening of NAFTA, weakening trade with China
imposing an extra 10% tariff for outsourcing labor and importing goods
and giving a 15% tax break to companies who hire legal american citizens
imposing HARSH penalties like loss of business license to companies who repeatedly hire undocumented workers
end this pointless war and instead use the billions of dollars to invest in research for solar/hydro/geothermal/hydrogen energy
install a few hundred square miles of grids of solar power in the mojave/sonoran desert
limit our use of fossil fuels to planes, military vehicles, ambulances, fire trucks, police cruisers and trucking companies

I hear things are pretty bad in Michigan now as well.  Look to blame Lansing, GM and Ford for that fine mess you are in.  In microecon, we reviewed efficiency numbers from all of the automakers, and it is rather shameful how ineffiecient and poorly ran our automotive sectors have been here in the US, especially Ford.  We are now only beginning to catch up to Japan and the US automakers got what they deserve   It is too bad Michigan is where it is at today, but that is what happens when you build your state's economy around a product that is inferior in every way to imported goods.
