Ok, which is better, AoC or WAR, for someone who.... 1. Prefers PvE more than PvP, but still likes to PvP on occasion? 2. Which one allows you to level up without absolutely requiring groups/parties to get anything done? Don't get me wrong, I love to instance or do group quests, but not at the price of having forced to do it just to progress. Is it possible to level up without a heavy reliance on groups? 3. Which one has the most fun combat mechanics, since that's what I enjoy most in games. I have always picked melee characters (either a tank or melee dps? I don't like hack and slashes but prefers depth in the combat mechanics. 4. Which one requires less of a grind, a type of MMO where you can play 2 hours a day and still get something done. I have a really busy personal/professional life (i.e. being a lawyer and about to be a father). I would want a game where I can just play for a spurts at a time after a hard day at work. 5. I guess I want something different than WoW after 2.5 years. I didn't like the end game raid-grind because I can't devote 4-5 hours a night, 4-5 days a week.
Thanks in advance for comments and suggestions. ( posted same topic on general forums but not a lot of responses so i thought I'd try here and AoC forums) |

Do or do not. There is no try. |
To generalize this, from my point of view at least, I'll put as follows: AoC(to me) leans more towards pve and is probably more like WoW. WAR looks like it will be the second coming of daoc and will be more pvp but a good mix of pve.
Then again, I think I'm biased XD |

Originally posted by E1io Nah, yer not biased - it's more like WAR and AoC will appeal to different kinds of people, which is a good thing imho, especially for the devs since they won't be fighting for the same customer base. AoC - more serious, hardcore, guild stuff. The kind of thing that appeals to people who like to immerse themselves completely in an alternative world / second life. WAR - casual, devil-may-care, go in, bash some heads, feel good about it and logout. Letting off some steam for people who have more than enough enough stress and drama in RL. Personally, I prefer WAR. However I can see myself easily being drawn more towards AoC if I were 10 years younger or 20 years older... When I sit down before my PC the last thing I need is some corporate politics or a second job. I want to bash some heads and have a few good laughs with my mates. Period. |

hrayr2148 created the same post on AoC But anyway, Warhammer will ultimately win, and the winner will have the most players, and the most players with the most servers, and will give the most veriety of things to do such as grouping for anything you feel like doing at any time, along with grouping for PvP. This is one reason why WoW is the best , and why I end up there after trying any other MMO. If I'm up at 4 am and decide to go to the Stockades, I can have a group in less than 10 min. this is what a large population does for me. I was on the AoC site for the last few days trying to find out how the game is maturing as far as content, playability and a real guess on release, and all I got was AoC fans arguing with me. what this tells me is that both Warhammer and AoC are equal as far as no one knowing anything at all. Now being at the mercy of what the devs. give us in both games, I would have to say Warhammer because of the WoW quality graphics. With lower end graphics will get a better switchover from WoW to War, along with new players with there store quality computers being able to play. We can tell the ones that can't play, just put a $50 video card and $35 ram and you will be fine. I know what everyone is thinking at this point we don't need the WoW fans and the kids ! Right ? Well my view is that your not gonna stop the 12 year olds from AoC or War anyway, they can play both just as good as adults, however they tend to be more selfish and they like to quit groups in the middle of a 4 hr. dungeon, but your not stoping them anyway. kids have nothing to do with it. Warhammer will be lots of fun, easy to play, easy on the eyes and stands to be the next new fad. All the complex and technical, and serious players of AoC will end up where the fun is ! |

Originally posted by markoraos I think within 6 months of release, AoC is going to appeal to the Xbox Live! crowd. I also believe that crowd will destroy the game for the PC audience for the most part. Who knows though? I could be wrong and I could be right... time will tell. |

None of us can say what will be better. Neither game has been released and we only know relatively small tidbits of information about each game.
For those saying that AoC will be more like WoW, I'm not so sure about that. AoC has a completely new combat system. If anything, WAR will be the closest example as far as a combat system goes compared to WoW. WAR's graphics aren't nearly as cartoony, but you can see an obvious similarity between the two. You look at AoC's graphics and they are more like Vanguard, but even more realistic and graphic. In AoC you get the blood and guts factor, you get the ability to lop off arms, legs, and heads. You get the same PG-13 graphics in WAR that you do in WoW. If you look at where WAR takes it's fundamental mechanics from, you'll be staring directly at WoW. Now, I'm not bashing WAR, but I am saying that EA Mythic is targeting the mainstream audience, they want the money that Blizzard has from WoW. AoC is targeting your more hardcore mature players. If you judge being successful by who has the most subscriptions, WAR may win that war.. no pun intended. Then again, that doesn't necessarily mean that WAR is better or AoC is better. Each will have more than enough subscriptions to make substantial amounts of profit.
AoC has 80 levels, it is guild warring, it has both PvP and PvE, amazing graphics, blood and nipples, new combat systems, and a much more realistic universe.
WAR has 40 levels, it is faction warring, some PvE and mostly PvP endgame, above average graphics, PG-13 content(mostly), WoW fundamentals, and a fantasy universe.
The question isn't, "which one is better?" The question is, "which one do you prefer?" |
