Ok, which is better, AoC or WAR, for someone who....

1. Prefers PvE more than PvP, but still likes to PvP on occasion?

2. Which one allows you to level up without absolutely requiring groups/parties to get anything done? Don't get me wrong, I love to instance or do group quests, but not at the price of having forced to do it just to progress. Is it possible to level up without a heavy reliance on groups?

3. Which one has the most fun combat mechanics, since that's what I enjoy most in games. I have always picked melee characters (either a tank or melee dps? I don't like hack and slashes but prefers depth in the combat mechanics.

4. Which one requires less of a grind, a type of MMO where you can play 2 hours a day and still get something done. I have a really busy personal/professional life (i.e. being a lawyer and about to be a father). I would want a game where I can just play for a spurts at a time after a hard day at work.

5. I guess I want something different than WoW after 2.5 years. I didn't like the end game raid-grind because I can't devote 4-5 hours a night, 4-5 days a week.

Thanks in advance for comments and suggestions.

Why So Serious?

Since neither game has released I can only go on what information is available on both games.  That bieng said im just going to answer per situation instead of over all It'll be up to you in the end which one you prefer.  They're both going to have open beta's just wait and try is really the best thing to do since both games are being made for different types of people but over all they should both be fantastic.

1. Prefers PvE more than PvP, but still likes to PvP on occasion?  Either game is fine for this, they both have PvE.  I think you have to PvE to a certain level before PvP opens up in AoC but after that everything you need for PvP comes from only PvP. You never have to PvE in WAR and you never have to PvP in war....you can do which one you like or a mix and still advance to the end.

2. Which one allows you to level up without absolutely requiring groups/parties to get anything done? Don't get me wrong, I love to instance or do group quests, but not at the price of having forced to do it just to progress. Is it possible to level up without a heavy reliance on groups? WAR is going to be far more solo friendly with Public Quests & shared PvP Renown / ExP.  The game is all about realm.  If you help someone from your realm or participate in PQ's you get rewards based what you contribute.       AoC is a bit more grouped based but its supposed to have some really great solo stuff too, it just gets a bit more group guild relient towards end game than I prefer (thats a personal preference ).

3. Which one has the most fun combat mechanics, since that's what I enjoy most in games. I have always picked melee characters (either a tank or melee dps? I don't like hack and slashes but prefers depth in the combat mechanics.   This is really subjective here since both games are still under NDA.    AoC is a bit more Live Action / Combo system while WAR is going with a more tranditional MMO EQ / WoW style though you do build up use for special combinations its just more button based than live action.

4. Which one requires less of a grind, a type of MMO where you can play 2 hours a day and still get something done. I have a really busy personal/professional life (i.e. being a lawyer and about to be a father). I would want a game where I can just play for a spurts at a time after a hard day at work.   WAR is leaning towards more casual friendly, AoC is supposed to be more hardcore BUT and this is a big one  The game isn't released yet so its possible that its still rather casual friendly for its most basic PvE experience.   It really comes down to what you consider a good progress for your two hours.  Can you gain a level in 2 hours?  Doubtful most games don't let you level that fast.     I dont know what it'll be like in AoC but in WAR its made so you can just hop in go smash some heads and you've gained Renown and XP and then you can call it a night feeling as if you got something done.   Since there'll be constant open world fights, PvE PQ's repeat not long after they end, and there is scenario PvP.   Again I can't speak for AoC but I'm sure they have something you can do in 2 hours and feel as if you made progress.

No matter how you look at it though All MMO's whether skill based, class based, level based, linear or whatever ARE grinds.   Its just good well designed games hide the grind amongst the fun ...that being said...either game could please a person in the long run.

5. I guess I want something different than WoW after 2.5 years. I didn't like the end game raid-grind because I can't devote 4-5 hours a night, 4-5 days a week.

Just going off this line alone I'd say WAR.  WAR has no required PvE raids in order to further progress your toon.  Infact the best stuff in the game comes from the city seiges and high lvl RvR.    You never have to Raid in order to progress thank the lord cause I hate PvE raids.

AoC has a Teir'd raidng system or PvP Seiges and I think epic small group quests (not sure on this one I Just rmemeber they talked alot about a life long personal quest everyone gets )so it really just depends on if you want to be more PvP or more PvE at end game.   If you want fantastic high end PvE gear you have to pretty much raid or rely on high level guild crafters in AoC.

I dont know if AoC has an alternate progression path or not.  WAR has that so when you reach lvl 40 *the max level*...I believe you have to participate in RvR for it only but stil you get abilities, gear, stat packages, tactic abilties, and moral abiltiies that you can by using Renown points.  You'll have to read their Website for a better understanding but its a nice way to continue to progress and make your character something unique once you reach max level without having to PvE raid.

Thanks in advance for comments and suggestions.

It really just comes down to what your looking for.  for me its WAR.  I like being in a guild for social reasons but I hate being required to be in a guild to do anything which AoC sort of does require but then thats the nature of the game its alla bout building your own faction through your guild and being warlords while WAR is all about being a soldier in an unending war of conquest etc etc.

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

Do or do not. There is no try.

To generalize this, from my point of view at least, I'll put as follows:

AoC(to me) leans more towards pve and is probably more like WoW. WAR looks like it will be the second coming of daoc and will be more pvp but a good mix of pve.

Then again, I think I'm biased XD

Nah, yer not biased - it's more like WAR and AoC will appeal to different kinds of people, which is a good thing imho, especially for the devs since they won't be fighting for the same customer base.

AoC - more serious, hardcore, guild stuff. The kind of thing that appeals to people who like to immerse themselves completely in an alternative world / second life.

WAR - casual, devil-may-care, go in, bash some heads, feel good about it and logout. Letting off some steam for people who have more than enough enough stress and drama in RL.

Personally, I prefer WAR. However I can see myself easily being drawn more towards AoC  if I were 10 years younger or 20 years older... When I sit down before my PC  the last thing I need is some corporate politics or a second job. I want to bash some heads and have a few good laughs with my mates. Period.

hrayr2148 created the same post on AoC

But anyway, Warhammer will ultimately win, and the winner will have the most players, and the most players with the most servers, and will give the most veriety of things to do such as grouping for anything you feel like doing at any time, along with grouping for PvP. This is one reason why WoW is the best , and why I end up there after trying any other MMO. If I'm up at 4 am and decide to go to the Stockades, I can have a group in less than 10 min. this is what a large population does for me.

I was on the AoC site for the last few days trying to find out how the game is maturing as far as content, playability and a real guess on release, and all I got was AoC fans arguing with me. what this tells me is that both Warhammer and AoC are equal as far as no one knowing anything at all.

Now being at the mercy of what the  devs. give us in both games, I would have to say Warhammer because of the WoW quality graphics. With lower end graphics will get a better switchover from WoW to War, along with new players with there store quality computers being able to play. We can tell the ones that  can't play,  just put a $50 video card and $35 ram and you will be fine.

I know what everyone is thinking at this point we don't need the WoW fans and the kids !  Right ? Well my view is that your not gonna stop the 12 year olds from AoC or War anyway, they can play both just as good as adults, however they tend to be more selfish and they like to quit groups in the middle of a 4 hr. dungeon, but your not stoping them anyway. kids have nothing to do with it.

Warhammer will be lots of fun, easy to play, easy on the eyes and stands to be the next new fad. All the complex and technical, and serious players  of AoC will end up where the fun is !

I think within 6 months of release, AoC is going to appeal to the Xbox Live! crowd.   I also believe that crowd will destroy the game for the PC audience for the most part.  Who knows though?  I could be wrong and I could be right... time will tell.

None of us can say what will be better.  Neither game has been released and we only know relatively small tidbits of information about each game.

For those saying that AoC will be more like WoW, I'm not so sure about that.  AoC has a completely new combat system.  If anything, WAR will be the closest example as far as a combat system goes compared to WoW.  WAR's graphics aren't nearly as cartoony, but you can see an obvious similarity between the two.  You look at AoC's graphics and they are more like Vanguard, but even more realistic and graphic.  In AoC you get the blood and guts factor, you get the ability to lop off arms, legs, and heads.  You get the same PG-13 graphics in WAR that you do in WoW.  If you look at where WAR takes it's fundamental mechanics from, you'll be staring directly at WoW.  Now, I'm not bashing WAR, but I am saying that EA Mythic is targeting the mainstream audience, they want the money that Blizzard has from WoW.  AoC is targeting your more hardcore mature players.  If you judge being successful by who has the most subscriptions, WAR may win that war.. no pun intended.  Then again, that doesn't necessarily mean that WAR is better or AoC is better.  Each will have more than enough subscriptions to make substantial amounts of profit.

AoC has 80 levels, it is guild warring, it has both PvP and PvE, amazing graphics, blood and nipples, new combat systems, and a much more realistic universe.

WAR has 40 levels, it is faction warring, some PvE and mostly PvP endgame, above average graphics, PG-13 content(mostly), WoW fundamentals, and a fantasy universe.

The question isn't, "which one is better?"

The question is, "which one do you prefer?"
