Yes, it is worth getting GW now. Not only do you get in over a year of play with a real cool game,  but my understanding is that with Eyes of the Norht, it is a bridge expansion from GW to GW2. There are more knowledgble forum responders that have all the details, but even if you just get one of the packs and the expansion, you'll have hours of fun!

In Eye of the North they introduced the Hall of Monuments there you can add various things you've come across in your journey in Guild Wars. The items added to Hall of Monuments will then transfer over to GW2, or at least something like it. Arena Net have only said that you will get "something", it's so far not been said what this may be or more exactly how it will work.

1 year is also quite a lot time to enjoy Guild Wars. Remember that you play because it's fun not because you want to become the master of everything or equally.

My recollection is they initially said  GW2 would replace GW.I seem to recall they then backtracked on that and said no one would be forced to the new game.

I agree with you Godlies, I think 1 year is pretty good time to ENJOY GW before GW2 comes out.

I think there is much more than a year to release of GW2, considering the usual delay of game development and the very little info so far including the absence of screenshots.

nope, they are quite rightly keeping it VERY close to thier chests this time

However so far we are looking at a end of Q1/beginning Q2 2009 release

Guild Wars is fun...

Hey, GW will never die even with the release of GW2. Sure, the community will shrink, but I can gaurentee taht there will always be people playing guildwars.

So yeah, 1 year is deffeniently enough time. you'll probally be wanting the next expansion a month later.

I suggest starting with the first one in the story line, Prophecies.

The only things I get high on are MMORPGS's

In a way it would be killed when guild wars 2 comes out but at the same time it won't be. It will be since odds are way more than 1,0000 people will try guild wars two for a bit of time and might decide to stop playing the original for some time. this results in an increase of mission groups consisting of heros and hench wit less people. Though, it won't be since honestly if you have seen the monestary in district 1, half the people treat the game like it was gaia online so with them gone the game would get a bit better.
