Yes, the title says it right, I want to find a thinking man's game, per say Everquest I type. Where difficulty was what made it so wonderful. Does anyone have any ideas? Please let me know, if so.

In my opinion, an MMO's difficulty should come from competition from other players. But when I say competition, I don't mean PvP combat... The true challenge should be social, political and economic challenges. It's just a shame that no devs seem interested in developing a sandbox MMO built for user-created content.

Try the EVE trial. It's slow, but smooth and definitely challenging. Death penalty is as harsh as it gets, just short of permadeath. It's pretty quiet though, so make sure you find some people to play with ASAP or you will likely get bored.

I'll try the EVE trial for sure. I've heard the community isn't too friendly, but I'm very interested in at least seeing what it has to offer. Thank you for your suggestion!

FFXI is also very brutal, and a thinky game!  Ur not gonna get far fast and combat requires tons and tons of preparation and know-how to proceed at a fast rate!

Well, unfortunately the EVE download page is displaying one hell of an error for me, so I suppose that is out of the question, any more ideas? I really love LOTRO, I just, meh..dunno, once I hit 22 I felt like I'd done it all. I never shoulda left the Shire, heh.

I stared at the "Like A Catholic Schoolgirl" reply for about five seconds before realizing that wasn't a MMO. I'm too tired for this, lol.

EVE is definitely a good choice. i cant really think of any other MMOs that require much thought other than the best combos.
