NCsoft has published information on the contents of the upcoming Issue 12: Midnight Hour for City of Heroes and Villains.  The free expansion will include epic archetypes for villain, new power sets, a number of game-play changes, the Midnight Squad, and more.

Villain Epic Archetypes

Infiltrate the Arachnos organization from within! Upon reaching level 50, Villains unlock two new Epic Archetypes; Wolf Spiders and Blood Widows. They have their own unique storyline and missions, power combinations and costume sets. Branching powersets allow the Wolf Spider to specialize as either a Bane Spider or Crab Spider and the Blood Widow chooses from the Fortunata and Night Widow branches. Each brings with it unique costumes for your Arachnos duties, as well as your newfound role as a Destined One.

Powerset Proliferation

Using his newly built Resonance Manipulator, the Villain scientist known as Dr. Brainstorm™ has discovered a way to alter the energy strands which connect every Hero and Villain to their powers. This discovery has not only opened the door to new powers for his fellow Villains in the Rogue Isles™, but has also done the same for the Heroes of Paragon City ™! Specifically, new characters of almost every Hero and Villain archetype gain access to an additional primary and secondary powerset that they didn’t have access to previously. Details to come!

I am glad to see they are finallly doing the Villain epic archtypes. I think with the innevitable release of Champions, this will inspire some new features (I hope).

I think champions has nothing to do with it.  In fact, the issues with COH were all on statesman and the new features should be credited to the change in management.

Odds are that I will resub...and cancel 1 or 2 months later, completely angry at something about the game balancing of the game; which will shaft the EATs in a way or another. :P

 

Hehe, needs more info about the epics villains at any rate. :)

Current MMO dev teams = Keystone cops.A pure comedy of errors,sadly its not as intentional.

You know, IF they had done this right they would have gotten me back as a paying customer.

As it is, all i see is a 1/4 measure that doesnt go anywwhere near far enough.One that simply wont get my money.

The game should have from the start been a point buy character creation system, not a class system.All they are doing is adding a few more feet to the 12' cubicle that is the character class system.

It will still be far too restrictive.

At the very least , they should have made all powersets available to all players, with the limits that you can only pick one from each catagory and only spend so many points.Something along the lines of Villains and Vigilantes char system

With the catagories being something like attack,defense,healing and crowd control (with some power sets like pets under more than one catagory)

They been working on VEAT for quite some time.  They repeatedly said they didn't want it to be an "evil peacebringer" and I for one am glad that it is still in a villainous theme and NOT a nictus!

Also, I don't think the game will go F2P ever.  It's our sub dollars that are paying for the Issues that come out.  You want F2P?  Fine you can't have the invention system, epic AT (hero/villain), no striga, no croatoa, no shadow shard, no grandville, no peregrine island.... need I go on?

I agree with you completely on each and every of these points.

 

At any rate, me want more info about the epic villains ATs...it tooks them 1 more year to make them then it took them to make the nictus, considering the respective launch dates of CoH and CoV...they have a lot of other stuff to do and Villains are vastly less popular than heroes, so I am happy with the delays regardless.

 

However, I still hold grudges of unhappiness at all the changes they made which made no sense, from my PvE balancing point of view.  IH was a passive power, they make it a ganker power.  MoG was broken, they make it a ganker power.   Invul was ruined for Tankers/Brutes because it was available to a scrapper...but it is the set which should be the best, or at the very least second best, tanking power...(9 defensives powers which stack, nothing offensive...that beats a rock with only 8 defensives powers (mud pot is offensive) and these powers doesn't stack, thereby the rocks need less and can take other powers from alternates...invul should be the best tank IMO...or at the very least the 2nd best...endgame groups should want invul for tanking purpose)

 

My point is not to say I am right/wrong.  My point is, that I still hold grudges, which mean I find the changes unfair and uncalled for...I dunno how much hope this game has with me...I am willing to trust and believe...but the epic villains ATs are their only hope...and everyone always told me to not put too much faith in these...EQ, despite all it greatness only see me play 2 characters to an epic level (epic twink and main, but twink was stronger in the end LOL).  CoX got 7 epic characters...and 3 almost epic...that is a LOT of trying...and somehow I am suppose to believe this time will be the right time?

 

LOL.  The worst part is that I am all willing to try it, if it seems remotedly nice/fun...at the same moment, I feel all this anger for these others ending*

 

*Actually, I love my Thugs/Dark MM...I really can't say anything wrong about this epic toon(well, I mess up the last respec, but that can be fixed if I want hehehe), but, it is not a character wanted in groups much and...I don't see how IOs would promote this character significantly, so the reason to still play that toon is not there...yet...I am just bored, not angry, when it is that toon...better than the 9 other highbees...and this MM is a big responsability as to why I still talk very nicely about CoX...all isn't dark LOL  I would recommend they try to "fix" any of the 9 other toons rather than risk messing with my happy-bored toon if they plan on working on this, the /dark MM is fine...yet bored...but each of the other 9 toons would definitely be a better prospect for risk vs reward.
