EvE's is a mash between a few web-empire-building-games and MMO-classic-mode. not very hard to get the basics down, and a specialty in an aspect or two. |

I don't think the learning curve is all that steep. The real problem is the presentation of data in the UI. If it had a skill planner built into it and maybe the EFT tool, the learning curve would actually flatten out quite a bit. I mean seriously how hard is it to lock a roid and fire lazers, or lock and enemy and push f1-f8, or knowing how to put a blueprint and some mins in a factory and popping out items. The actual things to do in the game are real easy to learn how to do. The lack of easily accessable information on how they work is the hard part. ----------------------------------------- |

EVE is no more complex than anyother mmorpg, only reason people say it's got a massive learning curve is because it's not the norm. If you log into WOW you know what to do because it's esactly the same as the other clones but because there hasn't been anything like EVE then you have to get used to it. |

i actually think eve is the opposite of hard learning curve, eve basically thrusts you into the most boring atmosphere you could possibly jump into. don't get me wrong, eve is beyond beautiful, especially with the trinity upgrade.
however, your entire goal in eve is to get a shitload of isk, and then go pvp against other players or guilds. making isk in eve is far easier than making money in any other mmo to date, i mean your first day you can afford a cruiser, within a week you can buy a battle cruiser. to me, it seems like people oversimplify this game making it seem hard when in fact, it's too simple. the entire game is played with your right mouse click, traveling has nothing to do with exploration, all you do is set a map destination and you can either a, autopilot or b, manually fly there by pressing warp to 0 meters yourself saving time, but still, it's pretty much the entire game... warp warp warp.
and to end my rant, eve is no harder to learn or play than any other game, people just don't give it a chance because, graphics are not everything, and there is a small portion of people who will sit inside a ship, and press warp all day.

Originally posted by vickypollard Thats why it HAS a big learning curve, not being normal means that its different and people are not use to it. And if people are not use to it then it will be more difficult., at least for me it was. I agree with the chart. |

That's an obvious understatement in all aspects. First of WoW don't have a learning curve, LOTRO's should be much steeper than WoW's. Haven't played POTBS. EVE's should be over any chart or diagram a human mind could possible come up with. |

Well in EVE you aint doing anything hard I mean its all boring repetitive tasks and pointless politics. It's not like you're doing rocket science to play the game is it lol.... Mining is no more complex than grinding mobs and PVP is no more complex than PVP in other games, just people think it is because they are too scared to lose all their stuff. I'm sure in WOW iff you lost everything you had on you and the chance of losing a level then everyone would be scared to PVP like they are on EVE. If people stopped giving a shit about losing stuff then they'd see while thegame has alot of depth, it's no more complex than other games out there.... just the death penalty scares most people off from playing. |

Very funny indeed. latest patch has added a tonne of help for all functions of EVE but after 4 years I still sit there with my calculator sorting through stats. I know there are programs out there now but I still prefer to sit and work it out myself. Probably reason why it still appeals to me. Even though I do need to jump into a game that doesn't have that complexity to have a break from time to time. |

Great pic funny as hell!! :)
But have to disagree about the learning curve, for anyone that has played anything other than MMOs it's really not that hard to learn at all. The 'average' player will not find anything confusing about learning Eve. It just takes time, its not a steep learning curve its just long. :) |

funny pic combat? lol hardly, on the rail, mass fight lag fests or ganks, nothing else to learn there. how about the politics? well simply put goon proved how simple it is to achieve conquest with "no skill whatsoever" as quoted by many many corps time and again, need thread refreshers? and i believe those no skill goons are still doing well lol. the only steep learning curve eve has is the lack of documentation on each proffession which results in many new players wasting time on useless training. eves skill curve is as follows, you have a big mob of folks, you have less lag you will win either by attrition or overwhelming numbers, again proven. oh sorry, cant forget your ship setup skills (snicker) nice post and pic though, i will give you a 7 for effort, to try and inflate your ego OP a 3. but hey! eve is nice looking!! can you smell that?!!...............there is nothing quite like it.....................the smell of troll in the morning............i love that smell. |

Originally posted by Hades_Warpig Eves learning curve for me came from its interface. After spending a lot of time with WoW and Lineage 2 the interface felt completely unintuitive to me, which is part of the reason I canceled my subscription, EVE could probably have so much more subscribers if their interface was less overwhelming and easier to use. >>> MMOs From A Players Perspective <<< |

That's awesome. So true aswell though. I've been playing EvE for almost two years now, and there's still some parts of the game that have me scratching my head (I'm still an utter newbie at probing). But thank god. It's great to play a game that you don't get the hang of after 5mins and have mastered after a week. |
