Hi I've got a laptop with the following spec: - 2.3GHz dual core Intel thing - 2GB RAM (662Hz or whatever) - 512MB graphics card (GeForce GO 7950 GTX) I bought it with Windows Vista and I ain't impressed at all. I'm seriously tempted to install XP instead so my question is: Will I get a better AoC gaming experience with XP, or should I stick with Vista? Thanks, Aryas |

I'm running vista at work for office apps and normal stuff and I'm pretty close to reinstalling my computer with XP. Vista just isn't as rock solid as XP for me and it seems like initial reviews of SP1 are not very encouraging... If it can't run the desktop and office apps I shutter to think what it will be like running games... |

With your rig, I would go to XP. I have Vista and the DX10 is nice, but it is also a hog on resources. Your rig is not strong enough to warrant using Vista for AoC. I would install XP.
but, why don't you try it out first and then decide?? I also agree with the poster below...add another gig of RAM, if you can. |

I too only have 2 gig of ram, Vista will run a lot better with at least 3 gig. I saw the difference between DX9 and DX10 with Lord of the Rings. DX10 is hands down the better looking and performing of the two. I believe that the DX10 version is going to be the "native" version of AoC, the game is being developed for DX10 but of course including DX9 support as a backwards compatability. That being said, it sounds like DX10 version on Vista is going to be the "premiere" AoC experience. |

i own 3 machines (only 1 is decent) and 2 have XP. i am constantly going from XP to Vista and i see no problems at all with either system. Vista has quite a bit more features than XP but i hardly use them. i got Vista just for this game in mind and so far all it has done is given my some sweet things to look at in my DX10 games. The computer that is is loaded up on is what i love. its got quad core, 2gb of Ram (got another 2 sticks sitting in a box somewhere) and a 512mb graphics card.
i suggest keeping Vista. get used to it and wait for the updates to fix the problems.
DX10 is really nice for those who enjoy graphics |

Vista is where it's at for gaming. Honestly, you're wasting your time if you go back to XP. It's going to be obsolete pretty soon anyway, as more DX10 games come out. Vista is extremely stable in the 32 bit version. I've had no troubles running any new games, and countless old games as well. Come to think of it, Vista has been a dream as far as stabilty goes. Many people are running the 64 bit version of Vista expecting it to be just another upgrade, thinking they can run old programs and stuff, only to find they can't. Noobs who don't know any better :P Trash XP. It's old News. Go with Vista 32 right now. Move to Vista 64 in a year or so when compatibility is better. |

Thanks loads for all your responses! I'm gonna try it with Vista and see how it runs. Eitherway, Office 2007 is in the bin, lol! I know this might sound a bit thick, but can't you install DX10 on XP? Cheers, Aryas |

Not really since you can't use DX10. In my case I found Vista more stable than XP but I have GTS8800 with Quad core processor and 4gig memory. Most likely gaming experience is same on XP and Vista. |
