For the Horde! |
I just realized that despite having owned and completed WC3, I never played the Expansion. Is this worth getting? I've still got a few RTS titles I want to play such as the new C&C expansion, Supreme Commander, Sins of a Solar Empire (well, nearly RTS). Would Frozen Throne still compare to modern titles? |

Its got a cool special mission on there where you play as Rexxar (and his bear), its like a mini WoW where you go to a town and pick up quests etc, like a prologe to WoW. |

Originally posted by Recant Have you tried the Dawn of War series? Best RTS on the market in my mind. They just released the 3rd expansion called Soulstorm. I highly recommend it. You don't have to have any of the previous games to play the expansion, it's a stand alone game. The only limitation is that when you play online you'll have to play as one of the 2 new races that were added in the expansion, but in the single player campaign you can play as any of the 9 races. The campaign is a little unique. It's setup similar to a game of Risk if you're familiar with that. You start out by choosing a race and you are in control of one territory on a map that's spread over several different worlds. The rest of the territories are controlled by one of the remaining 8 races. To win the game you must remove the other 8 races from the game by conquering their home territory. To do that you must start by attacking nearby territories. When you attack a territory, a skirmish game is launched on the map for that territory and you must defeat the opponent who controlled the territory. Win and you take control of the territory. Keep expanding your control until you can attack a races home territory and defeat him to remove him from the game. There's a lot more too it of course, but that's the basic idea. You can download a demo for free from steam or from just about any of the gaming sites, just google dawn of war soulstorm demo and you'll find it. The demo allows you to play as one of the 2 new races on a couple skirmish maps. It also includes a tutorial that teaches you the basics of gameplay. It's a very polished product, on par with Blizzard's releases. The game was developed by Iron Lore and Relic, the creators of the Company of Heroes RTS. Company of Heroes is also a good choice, however I prefer Dawn of War to it. |
