I just bought this game a few days ago..

I can run EQ2 just fine on high settings..

along with many other non-MMO's.

but I pop this game in a it freezes my computer after being in game for a minute.

I even put it on the lowest setting possible.

My graphics card drivers are up to date.

Any ideas?

8400GS and two gigs of dual channel DDR2. They have heat sinks on them as well.

On my current system ( amd duel core 5600 , 8800gt, 3gigs ddr2 800), with all settings maxed, the game can range from 17fps to maybe 50. With the settings turned down to just below maxed it's a more stable(30-70 fps). So the problem could be your current system, mainly your graphics card.

Also, if you are running vista, that operating system hogs up about 1 gig of ram leaving you only about 1 gig to play with vanguard, which is not recommended. If you really want to make this game look decent, might want to look into upgrading your card or at least adding another ram stick.

Another useful tip is to regularly defrag your harddrive, update drivers etc. For more indepth info on technical issues I highly suggest their forums. I was able to find tips to solving my problems there so check it out if you get the chance.forums.station.sony.com/vg/forums/show.m

I am running a brand new system. Everything new.

XP Pro. Not Vista.

and I'm sure it would run if I could get it to run..it just freezes everytime I try to play.

Doesn't do it with any other game :(

Guess I wasted my money.

"Don''t you NEVER turn your back on a fuckin'' clown when he''s talkin'' to you"

Game freezes and system locks up are very rarely a game's fault. It's either a overheat, overclock, damaged hw part, hw incompatibility. Freezes/locks up are caused either to save HW part from being damaged by overheat or low voltaiges or when the gpu/cpu needs to do something that it can't handle. Usually driver will stop responding and it will cause a complete system lock up.

Vanguard might overheat your GPU a bit more than EQ2 and cross the limit when it becomes too dangerous so your OS freeze. I would recommened you to download some temperature monitor software and check your temperatures while playing VG.

REALITY CHECK

As the person above stated, it could be a heat problem. With my card I have to manually turn the fan up since it automatically sets itself to 20% when I turn my computer on.
