NCsoft has announced that the Rikti will begin making new incursions on the planet Earth at several points during the year.  Luckily the polite invaders were kind enough to announce the exact dates of their invasions.

The looming threat of the Rikti Invasion Force still hangs like a dark pall over Earth. Despite the best efforts of humanity, aggressive Rikti incursions still plague the planet. Advance warning systems indicate the Rikti are massing for attacks on the following dates throughout the year:

• March 7th through the 13th
• April 25th through May 1st
• June 13th through June 19th
• August 1st through August 7th
• Sept 26th through Oct 2nd
• November 14th through November 20th

Prepare for a desperate battle to save Earth from the Rikti Invasion Force! Aggressive Rikti forces will attack Paragon City and Rogue Isle with increased frequency at any time during the above dates! Some important items to remember about Rikti Invasions:

• When Zones within the cities are under attack, a world-wide alert will be issued by Vanguard. This alert will show up in your Chat window on the System channel, warning you in which zone attack is imminent.

Men do not quit playing because they grow old; they grow old because they quit playing. -OWH

Does this have anything to do with advancing the story line or is this just filler?

It not only has nothing to do with advancing the story line.... it also has absolutely no effect upon the city's structures or condition..... and yields absolutely no experience-earned value what so ever.

I was excited about the Rikti and I even like the scary atmosphere when the skies turn dark and their ships start invading, shooting at buildings and people.

BUT, they cause NO damage to ANYthing except you the player.  They try to kill players and then they leave. Its really lame. A HUGE waste of developer time in the end because it doesn't effect ANYthing longlasting.

I already have things to kill in Paragon City, I don't need them dropping out of the sky now too.

NCSoft, introduce something cool. Like cars and motorcycles to race around the streets in, and subsequently car chases against fleeing bank robbers! That'd be fun!

The enemy is so dumb! They believe that WE are the enemy! - A famous orc commander.

Rikti invasions are back by players request.

When an invasion occur, you lose no XP if you died.  Every Rikti invader is even level for you (a level 50 or a level 1 both see the rikti as even level, the level 50 will do more damage since he has better powers and better slotting, but the level 1 is not completely useless).

There are 2 reasons why the players ask for it:

- Badge earning and accolade earning (psi!!!)

- Cheap way to PowerLevel, without the need to actually find a PLing group.

- "If I understand you well, you are telling me until next time. " - René Levesque about the denial NO on the poll to his dream, project and goal. (Free translation)

WTS - a clue. cheap.

I do not support stupidity or weakness. Sorry.

it's nice enough filler.  but a new issue on test would be much better filler.

as would epic villain ATs.

they did, at least for an ouroboros mission or two.

and in those missions, the higher-ups in the 5th column talk about how they're going into hiding and will return when the time is right.

DOS 6.22 - fuzzy memories...

...

Wow... The Rikti are back... big deal.

I like them. Killing them. But I already have a (Rikti War) Zone for it.

Why doesn't NCSoft do something different? So many interesting enemy groups, why not use them?

Pure filler, as Valentine's day event is probably over, they've no other special occasion to keep players on the grind - I LOVE the game but let's be honest...

P.S.: so good to know somebody else thinks vehicles would be awesome in the game!

Tried: MxO, FFXI, TR, D&DO, EQ1, Archlord
Played: CoX, GW, DR, AO, SWG, EQ2
Playing: WoW-BC
To be played: AC, DAoC, Planetside, Mabinogi, EVE, PotBS, AoC, Vanguard, Ryzom

I think we can officially say CoX has gone into maintenance mode or milking mode... which ever you prefer.

With Champions Online just announced, they're not even in a position to make announcements about issue 12 to keep the player base interested.

Great game... it's getting a little dated though.
