I know this has been asked before several times.

But I'd like to know current opinion on which class is the best tank/warrior class, and which is the best caster/nuker class, preferrably for solo play.

Also, does race have anything to do with picking a class nowadays? I mean in Vanguard and other MMO's the races have certain racial abilities or "buffs" so to speak that help certain classes along.

Thanks guys :)

Well, I am currently playing an Erudite Wizard at level 48 and it has been fairly solo-friendly so far, but I have taken a lot of defensive AAs(maxed the replenishing ward in the wizard tree first).

Starting stats may help in the first levels, but they become basically irrelevant with higher levels and better gear.

Best overall nuker for sheer damage output is the warlock, best overall tank IMO is the zerker.  If you want a really good solo class though then the Fury.

Thanks for the info guys.

So what makes the Fury such a soio-friendly class exactly? A ton of buffs, or a DPS class or?

:)

The Fury is a popular choice because they are actually a healer class.  With the right AA set up they can have decent DPS for a healer plus they have the bonus of healing themselves when they get into strife.

For single target DPS no caster out performs the Wizards though but they are harder to solo as you rely on having your root spell hold out for most of the fight.

Another popular choice (probably THE choice) for a solo caster is the Necromancer/Conjuror who can summon their own pets to fight for them.

Best solo tank is the Shadow Knight hands down.... however it is probably the 4th best tank class for groups (Guard, Zerk, Pali then SK) and of no use on raids.

Speaking as a 80 SK myself.

As I want to specifically solo, I think I'll make a Fury and a Shadow Knight and see which one I enjoy most. Since they both can tank obviously, and the Fury can also heal himself, we'll see I guess.

Unless I can actually get into a guild somehow (I know nothing about current guild activity in the game obviously) then I may choose a Wizard or Bard (I love the Bard in EQ1).

If you really want to solo, then your choice is necromancer. He has all abilities a soloer needs and he is also DPS/utility in groups and raids. Many classes solo well, but he is the most versatile class in game. No class has anything that he doesnt have ;)

Nukers for soloing i go with a pet class.

For grouping/raids i go with a warlock for nuking.

for soloing i go with monk or shadowknight for tanks

For single groups i go with zerker or shadowknight or bruiser or monk.their dps and ability to tank makes grouping way easier.

For raids there is one and only guardian(please don't post so and so guild used a  zerker to tank T8 raid.Any class can but a guardian in similar gear is just on top simple as that ,thats what they exist for).

Mind you with the right AA the guardian can do nice dps but certainly not worth picking them over any other tank like class if you are in it for dps .
