Been playing for a couple days now. I have a level 8 Goblin Shaman, and I am also a level 3 Diplomat (though I suck at it :P ) and so far it's been pretty fun.

The quests aren't really anything different from WoW or EQ2, but they've been quick and pretty cool so far. Like msot people seem to agree with, the character creation/selection screens are pretty bad, and I actually think I made a disgusted face when I started making a character when I first got into it.

The game runs really smooth now on my computer (Pentium 4, 2.5ghz processor, 1.5gb of RAM, GeForce 7600 GS vid card), there's no lag, and the only time the game skips, or stops for a second, is when I am entering a new area and things have to load up, then it's back to normal.

I added a screenshot to this place:

Only level 8, riding this awesome mount (if only temporary), with a giant behemoth walking behind me. Things are happening all over the place with the NPC's, they're not all just standing around (though a good amoutn of them are), and so far, it's pretty immersive.

Of course there are bugs and everything, like sometimes the breathing meter comes up while you're just swimming normally and not underwater, and.... well, I'll find more, or remember more later.

The game's got flaws. But I think it'll keep me entertained for a while.

If you're on Seradon and wanna talk or do something, my name is Gajari on there too, so send me a tell sometime.

Later guys. :)

"Don''t you NEVER turn your back on a fuckin'' clown when he''s talkin'' to you"

And the game will get even better for you once you start exploring other continents and learn to craft.

REALITY CHECK

Good luck finding groups at 25th+ levels, the game is empty. Why wate time playing a game that will be cancelled on top of it? AoC and WAR are coming, and this game can't afford to lose any more players. PLUS a big nerf stick is coming for all the classes.

There are too many free alternatives that offer more than meaningless and endless level grinds to make EQ relevant anymore. Plus, the new breed of MMO like AoC and the upcoming Warhammer Age of Reckoning remove any value left in the antiquated EQ model.

Make it free permanently or close up shop. EQ just isn't worth paying for.

Do you have to shit on every positive VG thread that gets posted? Is that your goal in life? Oh wait...you must not have one.

Anyway, I just got my box today. After reading many POSITIVE comments on the game, I went and picked one up. Patching now. Looking forward to it. I hope to have the same enthusiasm about it.

Comments like this almost make me want to try this game just to see if all the vitriolic hatred here is in any way justified or just all hot air.

One thing though. I keep hearing people mentioning about how they have really high FPS like in the 80-90's with their powerful machines. I can't even begin to imagine what that's like.

The game is smooth enough to me at the 15-20fps I was averaging in town earlier. I assume I get around 30+ out in the wilderness and stuff.

It almost seems like anything above 30-40 doesn't even really matter all that much. So getting 80-90 fps is pretty crazy, and you must have to blow a ton of cash to get so far advanced that the games at the moment can't even really keep up with your computer.

That is an interesting thing. 15 may be on the low end, but 20-25 fps is really enough to make things smooth. I remember a figure of 50-60fps at the top needed to get thing nothing else then really really smooth with emphaise on really.

When the games run at 80-90 fps, well one have actually overshot the needed hardware to run those game. Ok the computer is future proof but at what cost? Buying hardware that are new and overprised compared to what one gets 6-12 months after buying the same thing.

I wouldn't listen to anyone saying they are getting 80-90 FPS in VG. I have a Quad Core CPU and an 8800GTX ect and i get something like 40FPS outdoors and 20+ in towns. I wouldn't factor in SLi or Crossfire either as both scale horribly and both give absolute crap performance in VG (they don't even work in WoW). Don't listen to those bullshit figures, your doing well getting your 15-20 FPS with this game.
