Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has announced that membership on the Official Stargate Worlds Forums has increased 30% since they announced that beta testers would be chosen from the ranks of the forum users.

Interest in the official Stargate Worlds Forum has taken a quantum leap since plans were announced for the upcoming beta! "The Stargate Worlds Community Team is thrilled at the response we have on the forums right now," said Senior Community Manager Katie Postma. "We have grown in size by close to 30% since we announced that beta users would be chosen from the forum membership. This shows us that there is a huge population of Stargate fans and gamers alike who can't wait to see this game!"

The current plan is for Beta to commence in the next few months.

Yep, seen a lot of new people over there.  I thought I was registering late back in September.

Unfortunately, more than half are probably goldfarmers, botters, and exploiters wanting to get a head start on planning their routines by getting in beta.

Then another chunk who are just people who wanna play a free game and won't look for a single damn bug, and won't report any if and when they do stumble upon them.

30% more forum users where most will be one or two post wonders asking for a beta key and then never heard from again.

Yes, I'm being pessimistic, I know. Not knocking the game, just really tired of what is becoming the standard operating procedure for the cockroaches of the world.

While the pessimism is probably called-for in looking at who is signing up, I am confident that the decisions made by CME will reflect in the quality of testers that are called to participate in the beta. It's been said so far that those chosen would be people who have distinguished themselves in their involvement. I take my lessons from the old gold-panning days --- an awful lot of river's got to go by before you turn up a nugget of gold, the more registrations (the more river) the greater chance of a few absolute golden testers appearing. I just hope that I get the call... :-)

Even the most opinionated frequent poster might not have any idea whatsoever when it comes to beta testing or anything remotely technical for that matter.. thats not a very good benchmark.

Thats why you should never rely on free help. Its a cheap way, and usually results in poor results. What free betas do actually help with, is server stress tests. And, even if 10% of free beta-testers do actually file a bug report, well, thats an added bonus. It seems that a lot of companies do however rely on free beta testers - with obvious results - broken game-play, bugs, unstable client, unresponsive/laggy server.

If they wanna get things right, hire a professional QA team.

TBH i signed after the beta announcement altho ive be reading the forum for close to 2 month i think..especialy when im bored at work:). Didn't saw a reason up till now to make an user on the forum just for the sake of trolling...prolly not i wont post anything even now. Made it now firstly because of the beta second because prolly ill play the game even after its official launch ...unless its a major disappointment, so i just wanted to be sure at least the i can use one of my regular forum nicks.

I've played lots of betas...and did some payed testing...on some i filled bug reports on some i havent. I don't plan to fill them even in swg unless they are really friendly. If they really want results they should hire ppl with technical knowledge to test the game..and they prolly already have those.

Open betas are usually meant for stress tests and to fix some major issues...issues that most often are not reported..or very few ppl report...but everybody complains about those on the forums...and that doesnt always mean bugs..they might be gameplay, enviroment, etc. issues.
