Will there be any other Robert E. Howard characters (from the offical books) in this game? You know, like Red Sonja?  If so, will it be like the SWG themepark system? Not sure if this against NDA, but just interested in knowing.

Yep, Kull was a Howard character. However he was not living in Conan's time. He was living in the Hyborian age a long time before Conan.

Yes, there will be several characters from the Howard books present, including a few supposed to be dead...

Aye, although as a phenomenally powerful sorcerer, he just might have a valid excuse for still walking

A few others you run into, Strom, Kalanthes, and Arias

Note for overzealous mods: Info obtained via Avery, no NDA breakage involved.

I guess I will have to wait until the next round of beta invites, or until retail, to find out the whole sorry.

Yea there is a few in there if I remember from posts over the past few months. Aelfinn pretty much got all the ones officially announced some way or another.

See if we can dig up some more names. I really like how the lore and quest guys tie things in with their own idea's. Its a good mix!

15.2 What part of the Conan lore is the game based on?
We're basing the game primarily on the original works of Robert E. Howard, but we're also drawing upon over seventy years of books and comics. The game itself plays out shortly after the events that are described in the story “Hour of the Dragon”, which is considered to be one of Howards’ finest novels.
In this world, filled with cruel gods, mythical creatures, lost civilizations and a struggling human race, the mighty barbarian has finally seized the throne as king of Aquilonia.

Kull did live many millenia before Conan, but the Hyborian age (which took place roughly between 14,000 and 9,500 B.C. according to Howard's time line) was Conan's age of vanished history, not Kull's.

Kull lived in the pre-cataclysmic age of Atlantis, referred to as the Thurian Age, around 20,000 B.C.

It should be noted that the Red Sonja character that most people associate with Conan isn't actually a Howard character.  Howard's Red Sonja is from a little known historical tale he wrote called Shadow of the Vulture set in the 16th century.  The Red Sonja that most people know of is a product of Barry Windsor Smith's run on the Marvel Conan the Barbarian comic.  As much as I adore the old Marvel comics, I hope they stay away from them and stick strictly to Howard's original work.

Mostly because if Red Sonja shows up then I'm gonna petition for Elric of Melnibone to show up as well.  After all, they both from the comics!

Actually, Elric of Melniboné is the creation of the fantasy writer Michael Moorcock (not to be confused with the fantasy artist Michael Whelan, who did many of the book covers for the Elric collections) and was begun as a series of novelettes in the 60s and 70s, eventually published into book form with some additional stories written to fill in the chronology.

The Elric comics didn't come until much, much later; I think both Marvel and DC took a stab at it in the 90s.

I thought the Red Sonja character was base off a couple of different female characters in the Conan writings? Anyways, I was reading the latest King Kull book (which has all the Kull stories combined) and in one he goes to the mirror fortress of that wizard guy. I was wondering if that is where they got the inspiration for the wizard tower in the movie Conan the Destroyer?

Actually, I'm referring to Elric's cameo appearance in two issues of Marvel's original Conan comic.  Being both a major Elric and a major Conan fan, it was a dream combo, and two pretty good issues.  We're talking really, really early in the original run, though.  The comment was meant as a spoof on any possible Red Sonja appearance.

Elric, unfortunately, has had far, far worse luck in comic form than Conan.  With the possible exception of Makings of a Sorcerer, the comic book world has not been kind to him.  Quite sad.

I believe that John Milius mentioned in an interview about Destroyer that he got ideas from many different Howard works.  The wizard being an ape in a red cloak is a direct pull from a Conan story, for example( of course, so is the wizard being named Thoth-Amon).  Destroyer was meant to be a much darker, more brutal movie closer to Howard's vision but sadly studio meddling messed with it pretty heavily.  In fact, the Destroyer's script was originally written by the two original Marvel comics creators and drew heavily on seminal Howard works but was pretty much tossed out but Destroyer's director.  If you're curious about how it would have originally turned out, check out the graphic novel Conan: The Horn of Azoth.

Good question.

In one of dev interviews FC are talking about how open hands they got from Conan licencers. That includes even possibility to resurrect dead characters .

So i guess Tulsa will be first one resurected and thirsty for blood of King Conan.

As for Kull ... i am not sure how could he fit in the timeline ?

From the stuff I read (different reviews, and from the introductions in the compilation books I'm reading now) that Conan is possibly/probably the reincarnation of Kull. So I'm not sure if Kull could even come back in Conan's time frame. Any thoughts?

As far as Conan the Destroyer...I remember seeing that movie in the theater and thinking "what the hell". It was totally toned down for younger viewers. LOL, stupid Hollywood executives!

Oh thanks, I forgot that I read that some months ago. Then i need to find that novel and some before that time frame to get a grip on when the game is played out.
