Against my better judgment, my girl friend and I went to go buy HG:L better yesterday and believe it or not, we both thought it was better than WoW. The quests are short and sweet. You can kill 5 mobs at once instead of having 2 mobs kick your ass as a lowbie in WoW. There's other things I'd like to point out but people might start flaming due to the natural immaturity of this board. |

I really love hellgate london, I have the game however there are a few issues that makes me really hate the game... The game all around is great , however there are thing's that really make it suck. The thing's that make hell gate london not worth playing is the fact that new players, elite players, and Nightmare players are seperate on the game, this is what makes the game really bad and suck, other wise there is no problem. Yes I do realize that the game modes are all dfiferent in a lot of way's, and elite is harder, however there needs to be a new system put in, for example, the leader of the group is on elite mode, then all the rest of the people get put on elite mode when they go outside to fight in the leaders group, these are thing's that would make the game a whole lot better... I used to love playing HGL, but because of this reason I do not really play it anymore, and also because of the optional monthly fee, this game is great, but the system they have for parties/elite mode, and ect. makes the game suck, and not worth playing, because people cannot interact with each other between modes... The only thing i do not like about HGL is the thing that people cannot interact with each other, such as trade, group, ect... In my honest opinion the game as far as game play deserves a high rateing, but the thing about not being able to interact is what makes the game suck, there should be seperate servers for each one, or everyone should be able to interact with each other, and a complete new system put into the game, such as party leader decides mode, as well as the individual player on the mode, ect... This could be done, but half the companies are too lazy to do so... Anyways this is why I hate HGL...

The multiplayer is lame and the company that made the game is more intrested in exploiting the market financially than it is providing gamers with value for money. The first is a disappointment, the second invites dislike.
Otherwise, it's a great little game. |

OP, the day after you bought it, you claim it's better than WoW? Are you serious? WoW is a MMORPG, this game isn't, so comparing them up against each other, that's just silly. It also indicates that you have very little experience with online gaming. You make it sound like the hate against this game is almost completely based on performance. Trust me, that is NOT the case. My personal hate is mainly from the complete lack of variations, but there are several other issues too. |

While I do play HG:L and actually have fun doing it, I have to agree with #2 - I'd suppose that's what seperates it from the true aspect of a "mmo", even though FSS likes to call it that. That said I think this title will be very good and have loads of stuff to offer, it just need some time to mature. Give it about 6 months and I think we'll have the game we actually payed for. At least I hope so, since I'm very fond of the "shooter meets rpg" genre.

well there are a few reasons why on these boards it does not get much love here... 1. Some don't even consider this to be a mmo so some will constanly bash it as not being one. This game doen't fit the mold for any type of category. It's a mmorpgfps/whatever else you want to add to it. It has elements of every type of game out there on the market today which is a good thing. 2. Subscription model - Can't blame people for argueing about this because at launch we did not receive some of the extra perks yet. Extra content and perks to this game will be distributed over time so when you sub you will eventually receive them. Though I must say that FSS has never faulted on providing the extra content you pay for. Patch 1.0 Stonehenge was proof of that and patch 2.0 is going to be pretty great as well. Though noone is going to grill you if you choose not to do the subscription model. 3. Bugs - Yeah Hellgate had a rocky start in October/November so it turned off alot of people but hey since FSS has released patches with bug fixes this game simply rocks and is better than most games listed on this game site. Problems I saw with people complaining about this game was the fact that they didn't even meet the system requirement for this game but yet posted on the boards about how bad of a time they had trying to play. I know this for a fact cause I have played with alot of people who didn't meet the requirements for this game and had so many issues with it. Most people tried to max out the graphics in which their video card could not even handle. You most definitely need 2gigs of ram to play this game 1 gig is simply not enough. 4. Some just don't like FSS. Why ? I have no idea. Maybe because they associate with EA which perhaps I can't blame them ? EA is really just the publisher but in essence they have the final say when a game gets released. 5. Don't listen to reviews, 3/4ths of the reviews written on Hellgate were from people who never even played the game. All they did was read what others wrote, slapped something together and called it a review. Also don't even go by the demo of this game, the demo was pretty bad I have to admit. Some couldn't get it to work. Perhaps FSS will release a better version of a demo so people can try it out. 6. Comparison - Too many compared this game to established games such as WOW and Guild Wars. This game is barely 4 months old ? Any comparison to these types of games really holds no water. When Hellgate is atleast 2 years old then I can see it being legitimate. FSS has done a terrific job in fixing alot of things people had problems with. Today there are just some minor problems floating around but hat game doesn't ? I still play Guild Wars from time to tiem and Arenanet just unleashed a boat load of bug fixes to the game yesterday. Same as Wow or anyother mmo, noone ever had a near perfect launch except Lotro which still had a few issues. Hellgate is simply just going to get better and bigger as time passes on.

I dont understand all the hate either. Its a fun, f2p mmo. I put my hands up, I heeded the warnings and didn't subscribe so I might have a different experience to someone that subbed instantly. There's a lot of content and people mind their own beeswax which is fine by me. If you're feeling the need to party then you won't be satisfied because you don't need to so people will ignore you. It's a great solution to the over-partying of existing mmos and the game is comparable to guild wars but without the 'party gap filling' npcs. The graphics are the best on the market yet work fine on my 2 year old rig. $10/month is the cheapest p2p on the market too. It's not a 'thinking' game tho. The cookie-cutter builds are already established on the forums and you can do the whole lvl with the button held down and some good pot spamming. I think the main gripe for people relates to a lack of need to play, there's no real incentive to lvl up so people won't be compelled beyond all reason to play but its still damn fun. There's no I-win lvl 50 skills that you find in traditional mmos and there are some quest completion bugs but they aren't as fraustrating as you'd imagine because it's not hard to notice that the real xp is in the killing you do to complete the quests. I may just be fan-boying as I'm playing the game atm but for $40 and no monthly fee it's hard to find enough fault to stop playing. If you're unsure wait for the price to plumit to the bargain bin in the next big round of price-cuts at your game store. |
