Jack Emmert is a smart designer. Matt Miller is not. CoH became great at the hands of Jack. It is in decline because of Matt. Matt now works for NCSoft, spearheading the continued decline of a once-great game. I am VERY excited that Cryptic is designing a new superhero game with Jack and no Matt. |

Originally posted by skinnys I hope so. I pray the quests and content are MUCH more in depth. Maybe even have things to buy other than powerups. |

Champions was an excellent pnp game and the HERO system was a really great tabletop game system. It actually is reassuring that Cryptic is not following it for a MMORPG because it could be abused way too easily. That said, I'm holding judgement until they can show that they're trying to keep the customizable feel of the system rather than just mashing superheroes into standard EQ-MMORPG classes like CoX did (Tank, Healer, DPS). Sure the HERO system had categories that superheroes generally fit into, Superstrength Brick, Martial Artist, Energy Blaster etc but those were only loose categories. There were no real classes and you were free to pick any powers you wanted. Cryptic will have their hands full trying to make a game that keeps that sense of freedom and choice. I'll probably be following the game just for nostalgia sake. Oh yeah, the following is only for old fans of Champions - what the HECK happened to DEFENDER? They made him look like a re-vamped Statesman, for pete's sake! And in his description they say he'll fight without his powersuit helmet? |

Originally posted by Alienovrlord Ya, I agree with ya Alienovrlord, they made them to cutsy looking for my taste. I think they need to rethink there art direction a little. There going to have a comic book line out for sure with this release, and in order get great sales from it, there going have to hired some good artists to come up with some original characters and not just the common archetypes that we all have seen too many times. |

Ok, I read the article in Game Informer. Not impressed to be honest. It sounds just like City of Heroes(which I could not get into in the least and I love superheros and comics). For me, the graphics are the problem. I know games are more than graphics but they should at least be pleasing to the player in some way shape or form and I personally cannot stand any, ANY variation of cel shading. I've hated it ever since it came on the scene and because of it I won't even bother TRYING the game. |

I'm intrigued by the 'City's Transform' part of the game features...love the idea of actually being able to influence the world through storylines, hopefully they dont disapoint, i would also love to be able to play as my secret identity(clarke as opposed to superman) and have storyline to do through that aspect as well. |

Pretty much the exact same features they touted when CoH was in development. Let's hope they can pull it off this time around. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it. |

Originally posted by elf8bliss I think they can use the established characters from the Champions game, elf8bliss, but like you said I think they need to take a hard look at their art direction. They want to avoid having it looking like City of Heroes 2.0. And if they're using established Champions characters, they shouldn't atter them to the point where they are barely recognizable. Champions had a solid, classic (if generic) comic book feel to its art style, it would be nice if they tried to stay true to that.

Ugh, when was the Marvel MMO cancelled? Anyone have a link? That was the only MMORPG I have been waiting for, and havent played a MMO in half a year. Looks like the wait will be a while longer. |

Ugghhh.... the cheesy graphics / screenshots are a HUGE turn-off for me. I don't want to play a comic-book, I want to play a real-life MOVIE that's comic-book-like (a la Batman Begins, the upcoming Ironman movie, etc.) !! I am a current CoH player. I've played for 15 months now. And while the promise of being able to customize your powers and the hint that you won't have to fit into certain classes like Tanker, Blaster, or Scrapper sound promising... I would have HOPED the graphics would have taken a leap in realism (since it's been several years since CoH started using its current graphics engine)! How disappointing. But then, I realize this is simply an attempt to salvage all of the work that they've put in on the Marvel game they had been working on. Not sure if I'm going to try this one... probably not. I'm getting quite bored now with CoH. (I think I may need to switch to a fantasy / D&D genre MMORPG.)

I will be watching this. Cryptic is a quality company. Hope they really come up with some outside the box concepts and features. |

Without any form of PvP you might as well play NWN or DS. Games that are MMO are MMO for a reason; outside of standing around showing off your loot and trying to pick-up on a chick. |

I was a play tester for The 3rd ED of the pnp Champions suppliment. I KNOW how easy it was to "min/max" a PC. I hope this is as customizable. I HOPE this ISN'T as min/max'able. I'm too old to deal with Munchkins and powergamers. I like CoX, but am dissapointed in it's "universal" feel, and lack of customization. But, most of my toons on there are "old" pnp Champions PC's :) I hope to have the opportunity to recreate/ressurect them in a new enviroment. Because Marvel pnp sucked :(
Here's hoping! |

Spelling and grammar do matter. I find your lack of real-life skills disturbing. |

Originally posted by angelofcaineI recall some mention of you being able to choose any powers you wanted, but their cost would not necessarily be the same for all characters. Not sure whether that meant that costs varied based on "class" (hope not!), or whether they varied based on what other powers you had. The latter approach would be a good way to rein in the min-max'ers while maintaining flexibility. HERO System will let you build practically anything you can think of, but the p'n'p game also has a GM (Game Master) involved in the process. He is free to look over your sheet, full of caution-flagged Powers and Advantages and Limitations, and tell you "Not in my game you don't!". An online game will unfortunately need some other mechanisms to fill that role. |

sonicsix, please don't take this the wrong way, I mean this as a legitimate question. Why are you even visiting mmorpg.com at all? Haven't you just listed pretty much all the significant features of an MMO? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm genuinely curious.
