This is my opinion and my opinion only. Just to make sure i will define what opinion means: An opinion is a person's ideas and thoughts towards something. It is an assessment, judgment or evaluation of something. An opinion is not a fact.
Firstly the days, weeks and months i spent in Alterac Valley battleground provided me with flame retardent epic pvp armour and 100,000,000 resiliance. (sarcasm off now)
Let me begin, i joined WoW to experience all the hype thats surrounds it, as a roleplayer and PvPer i decided to join Defias Brotherhood RPPVP server.
Now i can understand that as a new player your not going to see alot of roleplaying from day one. Roleplaying is like marmite, love it or hate it!
What i did experience throughout the 6 months i subscribed to WoW was a serious lack of people willing to RP on my server.
The general population have no intention of roleplaying and actually frowned upon me when i tried to RP.
I basically ended up with 2 friends that would RP with me while i was helping them quest with my 70 hunter. (Both was under level 60)
As for RP guilds they was either hardcore RP or mild RP or Eliteist, i joined a RP server to RP, not to just RP with certain ppl. (everyone on Ultima would RP with you)
As mature gamer (Ultima Online Europa shard Vet) i was hoping to avoid all the childish L33t groups by joining a RPPVP server alas i was wrong.
Next topic: Instances and Raids. I dont mind instances, i never have until i played WoW. I hated those instances with a vengence, only to find out that the endgame PvE instances take upto 3 hours (depends on your group and experience) but i gave it a go only to find out i hated it with a vengence and that your chances to roll for a item you wanted was greatly reduced by the amount of ppl in your group. Ah, one wipe and another 30 mins waiting to replace the members that left.
Next topic PvP in WoW: This topic i hold with the most distain, PvP sucks (i would love to find a better word but sucks is apt) There is no class balance (because of the raid system). Its one endless grind in Alterac Valley for Honour. The world PvP is basically none existant and/or ganking. The PvP in WoW is gank or be ganked. Next topic Grinding Rep: Pointless as a PvPing Roleplayer, this game aint for me.
Bad points over. Now there was lots of stuff i enjoyed about WoW the interface is brilliant, its uber customisable, i loved that, loads of player made mods to make life easy, thats great. Questing is simple to understand they give you all you need to know to acheive the end aim. Auction house is quality and easy to use. Professions are really usefull, First aid and cooking a must for any PvPers. This game has lots of depth that 90% of other games miss, i applaud blizzard they have created a genre changing game. Took me 6 months to learn that WoW wasnt my game. Let me finish by reiterating that this post is about why WoW wasnt the game for me.
This is my opinion and my opinion only.

Wow .. I may as well state *my* OPINIONS too. 1) Instances - I *love* WOW instances. Finally, I (or my group) does not have to share the dungeon with 50 other people. It also makes the progression in the instance designed much better. 2) PvP - I don't PvP anyway. I played BG one or twice but I prefer leveling/question a lot more. Hopefully I still have a way to go before I hit the end game. 3) RP - Luckily I am one of those who does not like and don't RP. And in my case, a normal server will do. In general, as long as the people are friendly & helpful, I am happy. I am in a leveling casual guild and while there are few active members, the one who are (including me) are helpful and I enjoy playing with them. |

Ex wow players never die, they just come to MMORPG.com to bitch |
RP: I play on an RP server (EU Ravanholdt). Whilst some people are hostile to RP, there are also many pro-RP people, including several entire guilds devoted to role-playing. Instances: If an endgame instance is taking you 3 hours then you are with a poor group. Learn how to play your class well and find other good players and put them on your friends list. You will soon find that all WoW endgame 5-man instances can easily be done in 1.5 hours or less, whether in normal or heroic mode. PvP: I agree that grinding AV is fundamentally boring. However, world pvp can on occasion offer more than just ganking. Attacks on faction capitals? Organized events where groups of players from each faction fight eachother for some objective? These things can happen, but only if you make them happen. For example, a player is trying to organize a world pvp event on my realm this coming Sunday (see the topic Embrace the Storm -EU Ravenholdt forum). |

Good post. I agree with most points on your assessment. WoW needs more world PvP. |

Also, I must say this: I understand that these are your opinions. Even so, I think finding a decent guild of 70s who run instances might help you. I find that any grind is much more enjoyable when I can hop on vent and talk to guildmates while doing them. I am exalted with all of the 70 5-man factions except Keepers of Time. I would not be at this point if I had to PuG every group. Pugging, imo, is the WORSt way to experience the game. Strangers suck, bottom line. Find some friends who don't suck and don't suck with them. It will make the game worth logging on to.
ALSO, key advice here. Try to stick to one character. Perhaps one that fills two or three roles. That way all of the effort you put into playing will benefit one character and improve him/her. I play a Paladin. I heal sometimes, I DPS sometimes, and I tank A LOT. I enjoy it, and I've experienced a lot of advancement because I do not roll alts and grind the same grinds for a second time. |
