i ve played warcraft on two european servers for just under three years now . so i ve got to know a fair number of regular players . the majority are willing to at least try warhammer and my horde guild is actually talking about going on hiatus for a few months because so many members are looking to try this game . i think lots of us for the first month at least * when we get 30 days gametime ,will proberbly have a sub going to both warhammer and warcraft at the same time . i think if reaction is possative to warhammer and word of mouth spreads in warcraft itself , blizzard could see a large amount of people leaving . personally i m keeping my fingers crossed . i m hoping for some much badly needed competition . |

Why So Serious? |
No offense but...most of us don't really care what happens with WoW...and ...there are some of us (not me necessarily) that hopes WoW players stay with WoW. Personally I think the hardcore PvE lovers, PvE raiders, and a decent number of Blizz fans that never played MMOs before are most definitly going to stick with and be happy with WoW forever. I suspect the true PvP players that have subjected themselves to WoW because there was no where else to go that they somewhat liked are likely to come over to WAR. The ones that stay are the ones that'll grasp the Realm vs Realm concept of PvP. RvR's pvp is based group pvp, I think 'some' PvPers that haven't experienced anything outside of WoW might find this difficult to grasp that they have to actually group if they want to be of major use to the war effort I how ever don't think it'll be such a mass exodus that itll scare blizz. They've been around for a while...and their most hardcore supporters / lovers are ... never going to give up on Blizz...maybe they'll multi sub around but they'll always have a WoW account because its Blizz and for no other reason. I personally plan welcome players of any level noob or vet that works well in a team, isn't a jerk, and likes to have a good time to WAR when it releases. btw I think it will spur competition either way. WAR is being designed around all the things WoW promised around launch but renigged on later due to bad long term techincal design. And without all the things we hate from WoW :) Of course its RvR based which is a different central design core than WoW all together. |

Competition is good and healthy when it comes to the gaming industry. The best games win. When WoW is going to be challenged by WAR then it will give an incentive to both WoW and War dev teams to create better game content to sway the players. As it stands now, WoW being the one big giant in the industry people have no other BIG game to jump ships to, not saying that WoW is a bad game. Definately Blizz is doing something right, but are they putting out 110% or just being lame and slow in putting out new content. WAR could spark a rivalry, which in the end will benefit US, the PLAYERS with 2 good games. |

An exodus from WoW is utter fantasy. As pointed out above, there are a lot of Warcraft fans who don't want to go anywhere else. Unless WAR is every bit as accesable as WoW is, and then has some stuff that is extremely compelling content wise, I don't think it's going to be the WoW killer that so many hardcore MMO fans wishful think it will be. |

WoW will be fine because WoW offers a great deal of PvE gameplay that fans like. It also has some PvP. WAR will offer a different "package." More RvR-focused with some amount of PvE opportunities. Probably the good part is that the graphics and the gameplay in WAR will feel "familiar" to WoW players -- making the transition painless and easy. WAR graphics have a bit less fantasy look and a bit more detail, but is not greatly different, and the processing load on mid-range computers should not be very heavy in WAR. (Age of Conan, on the other hand, will probably require higher-end computers.) So, will WoW do fine? Sure it will. It has its own niche -- and a pretty damn BIG niche as well. Also, Blizzard sees the new MMOs coming out and will take steps to ensure that WoW remains competitive and interesting for its fans so that it will maintain its market share. WAR will be competitive and offer its subscribers the Warhammer lore (popular for 25 years now) and Mythic's Realm vs. Realm gameplay, which many DAoC players will attest is very stimulating and a lot of fun! Both of these things will make for a very interesting game.

Forum pvp ftw!!! |
There wont be any of that. WoW got an iron grip on its players and most wont leave that game. The players who started mmo's with WoW(the majority) will stay I think, the rest have either left or are on the brink of it. |

i've been playing wow for almost 3 yrs. now i plan on switching to war if it turns out as good as it should. now we all know war isn't gonna kill wow but i believe that there will be alot of players looking to make the switch. yes raiders and the pve crowd will stay but there is alot of unrest in the pvp crowd. people loathe arenas. most don't find it fun its just thats what they have to do to get top line pvp gear. theres also the bgs the grind for honor gear is tough due to the fact that the bgs are old and have become stale. people long for world pvp big massive battles and wow has went the other direction with the arena system. yea theres northrend coming in the xpac but if war is released and delivers on what it promises before WoTLK i think you're gonna see a surprising number of people jump ship to war. |

Well said Elvenangel....but personally I hope every last WOW geek stays the f*ck over there and does not come "try" WAR. Furthermore, I hope the system specs are so high that it furthermore filters out the WOW-crowd. Sorry, but I just can't stand that sense of entitlement they seem to bring with their "well WOW had this so WAR should too" crap and the "dumbing down" effect on gameplay....but then, I don't mind if they come over and contribute to my RvR points! hahaha Fodder in the Waaaaaagggghhh!!!!!! |

Eh. No, I don't think there's gonna be millions of people flooding to WAR when it comes out unless Mythic is really God and they can make the game incredibly awesome at release. People will be tentative about switching to a new game, even if it's great and even with all the hype. When WAR's been out for a while and people get bored of WoW (well, with Wrath of the Lich King coming out late this year, who knows when that'll be...) I think WAR will easily take its place. |
