Here's an article about a guy who's developing an MMO by himself. The images and ideas look really interesting. And the painterly graphics style seems to lend itself well to a small team or solo project, instead of having a team of 10 artists who do nothing but render the perfect toilet brush and 1,000 versions of bread mold... Without a huge payroll and investors to juggle, seems real vision can come through. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=1164 |

It looks interesting and worth checking out. However, I doubt that a procedurally generated universe can hold my interests for long .. but hey .. let's check it out first. |

why do humans build, because it isn''t there |
it's possible to happen. but just designing the database could take a week and they're still be problems that need to be ironed out.
this thing is a looooooooonnnnnnnnngggggggggg way out if he has any intention of doing it right. |

It's proof in the pudding that there are good designers out there that grasp multiple disciplines (even in CS itself), and can utilize them to produce a product. Designing a DB is actually easy, Paul, the problem is managing it as to prevent corruption of the data. -- Brede |

Its always great to see that entrepreneurial spirit. I'm sure a lot of us have said it if not thought it when we see people complaining about games, if you don't like what's out there or you think you can do better than make your own game. |

Save me from what I believe |
Heck, I wouldn't mind him just releasing the procedurally generated part on its own.. That would be enough of an accomplishment.. |

Ok, so I’ll be the one “negative” voice in the post. What exactly has everyone so excited about this game that I am missing? The article said almost nothing. The Love website says nothing.
Yes, the graphical style certainly looks different than any other MMO. I certainly applaud his work into the project. Creating an MMO, or any decent game for that matter is a daunting task, but please, someone open my eyes to what I missed.
The article says basically he’s a genius…ok, fine, good for him.
He’s designed some strange objects in the game…nice, it will look strangely pretty.
The terrain will be destructible…this will be nice if done right.
Players will have to cooperate to build tunnels and walls to defend their property…ok, we have at least one MMO in the works doing this now.
It’s one to keep an eye on, but is there more information I did not read somewhere? |
