Those days are long gone though.  WoW really did have nice PvP once though, plenty of room to add more Factional stuff if they wanted.  They could have just added the honor system and been golden.  That act alone would have spurred war EVERYWHERE war could have happened.  Grrrrr.....I wish they had chose that route instead.  PvP servers would have been made of win and awesome.  I

I remember the early days of WOW, and we did have quite a bit of World PVP smackdown on my server. I grew to openly hate a couple of gank guilds that went out of their way to kill you.

Blizzard could fix it all so easily.  They just need to give greater rewards for World PVP than they give in the Battlegrounds, and you'd see people flood outside into the light and gleefully start killing each other.

BG's were a great idea for the normal servers, and a terrible one for the PVP servers.

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

Personally, I think you should either try the game or not. And if you don't like it then too bad, go play something else. You aren't the only person who's interested in it.

Also,  I don't find there to be anything wrong with casual gamers, I am one. I happen to like my real life, but sometimes I like to play mmorpg games for recreation, just like reading or playing on a console. Frankly I get disgusted with all the testosterone driven teenagers who think they are the only ones who should enjoy a game.

I can tell you a big reason I'm interested is the world and storyline, which a lot of players tend to just brush aside in favor of the great kill or raid or whatever.

So in conclusion, I really hope the game does cater in part to the casual gamer, as well as the hardcore.

I wont be subscribed in to MMORPG so i could hold hands

i think playerbase will be somewhat casual, at least on the RP and PVE servers. i think players who  are into this game are over 20 and might have school or jobs already.

and like it or not, jobs and schools are timethiefs which really forces people to be somewhat casual gamer.. they dont have the time to spent on the game, at least not that much which would make them hardcore grinders anyways...

im quite sure that there wont be peace or carebears in pvp server... im sure its filled with blood, grief and sweat which im looking forward to

I don't understand how you can say that Blizzard made WoW more "casual" after each patch.  What are you talking about?   I quit WoW because in order to get anywhere you have to either raid, or play the same BG's over and over again.  It got incredibly boring.....raiding places like Kara and that thing they had after Kara is not for the casual player. Heck, my guild wouldn't let me join them until I had better gear...the kind of gear you can only get from doing the higher level instances...which was endless because of the low drop rates of gear...and the pickup teams that just get you killed over and over again.

Maybe MMO's just aren't for me...but I quit WoW and I'm going to at least give Age of Conan a try

Raiding sucks and casual gaming sucks. AoC fails to find the middleground by supporting both extremes.

To the OP (krinkled):

What's your definition of casual and carebear?

Seems like different people mean different things when uttering those words, so it's hard to give you an estimated guess of an assessment (as much as can be given for any game in development).

Basically I am a dissatisfied WoW player.  I really enoyed the original WoW but TBC not as much.

Every patch WoW has become more and more casual.

I would say Blizzards current target market is bored housewives instead of real gamers.

Anyway I cancelled my WotLK preorder, and just placed an order for Age Of Conan Collector's Edition.

I have heard positive buzz about this game but have a few questions:

1)  Will there be a robust raid endgame?

2) Will there be real WPvP?

3)  Are they going to pander to bored housewives and other casuals?

I.E. does everyone get the best gear in the game for free?

TIA

I am looking forward to having a place to go so I can leave WoW.

do me a favour mate. give me a Pm, when you know which game you choose.

then ill be 100% sure to remove that game from my "to play list"

honestly, do you feel better when calling people who don´t like the same as you silly names?

i find it pathetic and weak.

Casual and carebear for me means that playing 5 hours a week and mostly leeching in AV and arenas gives you most of the highest quality gear ingame...

Wow is becoming a retarded 5 y old carebear casual gamers mmo...

If AOC is casual and carebear also ofc im not going to play it...

So i hope there will be different mmos for various type of gamers..if they all go the wow way...man...it will really suck...

I mean there are gamers that actually like and want to play a game that is hard, needs loads of gameplay time to get imba loot....casuals get casual loot or go play wow...harcore gamers get hardcore loot...thats how it should be...

So bascially what you're saying is, that you should be rewarded, for not having any job, no social life, nor any friends, but 18 hours a day, to sit infront of your computer, and play? Seriously, If you're calling casuals carebears, then you must fit the group "No Lifers" perfectly.

This is kind of related to the general topic, but...

There's not going to be TRUE open PvP like Ultima Online had, where you could attack any player at any time. There were no races, everyone was human and could be attacked anywhere outside of the safety of town. Yes there were PKs, but they were outlawed and killed upon sight if they came close to the town. That's what kind of PvP AOC should have, and it made for interesting roleplay as well because you had bounty hunters and detectives and such. Anyone remember that?

Well what I'm saying is AOC PvP should be more ruthless but not unfair...

You say that like it's a good thing!

And I think Kyleran said it best:

In any case it looks like Conan is going to be something in the middle as far as penalties. There are also different types of servers coming as well.

interesting point.. I think this game is gonna be mainly for AoC fans and real mmorpgs fans. And fuck the bored housewives, they are everywhere... let them play second life and shits like that so we can play real mmos like AoC.

You sir, are an idiot.  How many times do the AoC devs have to say it.  They are going after the WoW player base.  This game will be very WoWish because they want the WoW market.  If they don't make it like WoW (i.e. easy to play easy to learn) they'll have another 100k subscriber game on their hands.  They are a company and they don't care about what he community wants.  They care about what their shareholders want and like it or not, that is revenue on par with WoW.  If all they cared about was making a hard core pvp game that was hard to play they would have released it two years ago.  Everything, and I mean everything, they are doing now is to make it play easy.

You name the new game coming up and, like it or not, it will resemble WoW.  AoC = WoW.  WAR = WoW.  LOTRO = WOW.  They all = WoW for a very important reason.  It takes $50-$100 million dollars to make these gamees and if they don't make it like WoW they don't feel they have snowballs chance in hell of paying back their investors.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

To the op, what a lamer!!!

Seriously, carebears are those who dont like pvp and ruin the original pvp ideas of games. Being a casual player doesnt make u a carebear, it just means u actually have a life..some people would love to spend all day playing a game, but unfortunately we must work to survive...

You probably couldnt even handle a real hardcore game (old school uo, when all ur gear gets looted and u cry)

Is this going to be a casual carebear game?

Hope so, some of us have lives outside of a MMO.

Your a douchebag. Thats most likely a fact. I play video games occasionally, mostly on weekends, and i would pick a hardcore over carebear game anyday. Don't cock someone off about having a life. that has nothing to do with the question he asked anyway.

He asked about the game and everyone gets all offended by making a reference to wow being carebear or something. I don't know if it is our not cause everyone says something different, but he said "casual housewifes", so what, whoooh lets go say he's pathetic and weak now.

Lol i don't know who, but someone said he shouldn't call wow a carebear game cause if thats all he's played and hasn't played shadowbane or some others, then he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I havn't played either but to me it sounds like your calling wow really really carebear, cause shadowbane and another one are so much more hardcore....thats exactly what he said....he stopped playing it because Its really carebear. i don't understand what you mean then.
