Maybe its not casual enough for you to enjoy it. I quit it being around lvl 20, went back to WoW, returned to it again and are now looking forward to reach lvl 50. Never had problems finding people to group with. The  only thing  that would make me return to WoW again is the better PVP.

The problem is with the game is that it is too casual. And I must ask

all mmo players to stop butchering the word casual. It's annoying to use such a vocab for a simple matter.

That includes the press on this site, and all other sites. Personally what I've heard. In general

games lack combat stance to keep the questing standable. As I much as I would love to enjoy a

mcchicken while watching a freaking toon in front of me do his own thing even though its suppose to be me,

thats how fat people are made. If I wanted to watch something, that is what movies are for. Drop the cookie

cutting bull freaking donkey piss. It's like how I still play Dark alliance 1. Why? Because the combat is thee

stuff. Heck, I sometimes still play RYL with it's crapstatics graphics. Why? Because combat is what is.

Now I'm sure with cleaned up graphics a well placed story line all would be well in the world.

It's why so many are hyped for Age of Conan. I have no clue about WAR if thats going to be the same case or not. This is merely another case why I didn't even bother touching the game after level 11 in the beta.

It doesn't really get different. Character design is  horrible. Probably couldn't make a thigh right to save

their life. No offense turbine but your sucking at your job as of late. What made me like the single player rpg was it's fluent attacks the ability to control what is meant to be you.  It's just something to keep in mind

about this game and all other mmorpg's.

Hell has opened its gates. One man stands forth when the rest flee holding the gleaming white blade. One man stands alone in the darkness and gives light to which there is none. That is me.

Hey, I was only responding to his generalization of power gamers.  Honestly, it isn't that LoTRO is casual.  It's ultra casual to the point that it's massively boring.  It thrives on IP, and the fans behind that IP alone, who'll buy into anything that is LoTR.  Personally, I'm a huge fan of the story and IP but I don't let that blind me to the fact that LoTRO is turd with a shiny coat and a popular label.  It's nothing more than a shoe that'll blow out in a few months that has a Nikey and Air Jordan logo across the side of it.

A big agree here...

As my sig says,,,,"LOTRO is the Wii of MMO's" so simple that the whole family can enjoy it.

(PS: I was a fan of the IP who bought in, but luckily did NOT fall for the lifetime debacle...hooray)

It isn't about "not getting it" or which game is "superior." Everyone has their opinions and their favorites. Everyone can easily place judgment on others based on these.

What it comes down to is FUN. Everyone has their own prerequisites for what makes a game FUN. If a game is FUN to someone, then they will play it. If one plays a game and does not have FUN, then they should probably check something else out.

The type of threads which have posts such as this one are usually just trolling for someone to convince the poster that a particular game is FUN. The truth is, only each individual player can do that for themselves.

Sure, a person's opinion can have yummy icing and a big red bow on it; sure, one can show me all the wonderful features the opinion has; but when it comes down to it, if I don't see the FUN factor in it that satisfies MY criteria, I will never accept it.

{ Mod Edit }

It doesn't matter what any of us say in the end.  It's up to each individual player.  Everyone is going to have a different requirement for their FUN.  I've found mine with LoTRo.

(ahh... can't... resist... to... feed.... so desparate, if affects my sense of sympathy:)

Might I remind you, the "few months" in which LOTRO was supposed to "blow out", has passed. A long time ago. Heck,, there is a topic on this board, which is about many, many more months in which seemingly, it still won't "blow out"....

Also,

If you think LOTRO is the "WII" of MMO's, are you saying that it is the one that sold more copies than the other 2 (despite expectations)? Also, WII is the only console that is actually revolutionary, due to the controllers. You used to blame LOTRO for not bringing anything new to the genre.... XBOX and PS3 only improved on GFX, nothing on gameplay... err... again, I remember someone saying the same about... yes, LOTRO! :) No worries, own goals happen.

And finally,

XBOX360 was launched a year earlier than the PS3 and the Wii. WOW and EQ2 were published 2,5 years earlier then LOTRO.  Can this analogy get any crappier? :)

Hey, i was only responding to this generalization of LOTRO as a boring game. Honestly, it isn't that power gamers are "elitist",  but you're ultra elitist to the point that it's massive trolling. You thrive on cliches, and the other trolls supporting your argument, who will bash anything that says anything positive on LOTRO. Personally, I'm a huge fan of trolls and I love to comment on their ramblings, but it won't let that blind me to the fact that they are not here for the argument, and their "reasoning" is a more or less well coated hate, under a "reasoning" label. It is nothing more than an effort to stir up flames and argumentations, so that post can this can be constructed. It won't blow out even in few years as trolls don't get out of gas and will never admit that they have been proven wrong :)

Donnie,

Excellent.  You generalized now.  However, I don't bash people who talk positive about the game I bash the idea that the game is this massive success people try to play it out to be.   Even though I think the game is a waste of space and a step backwards in the MMORPG genre as a whole that doesn't really matter as much as you or anyone else thinking that the game is the best out there.  What is important is the fact that all public evidence suggests that the game isn't as big of a blockbuster as people try to propose it to be.

Now given Turbine's track record of deception, lies and unethical doings anyone who knows their history can easily spot the deceptive announcements and press releases.  An example is initially saying it was the number two MMORPG later adding a big fat asterik which noted 'developed in North America'.   That still is very deceptive because most people won't read the asterik comments below the page.

Why would they be deceptive like that?  Don't try to make the excuse that they made a mistake.  They clearly knew that Eve Online ( an indie title that is beating out LoTRO, LOL), Lineage and even Runescape have higher numbers.

The evidence that we know speaks volumes.  Do your research.

Man, I love watching conspiracy theories. Also love "all the evidence in my face", that everyone knows, but interestingly, no one ever once quotes. Yeah, I guess nobody expects the spanish inqusition! :)

I personally play games that I enjoy. Amongst others, I occasionally enjoy LOTRO. Have not paid for lifetime, so I guess I have a free ticket out from the "lifetime buyer = compulsive to defend LOTRO even if they hate it" crowd. I consider myself lucky never to worry about Turbine, or any other company.

Just playing the game for itself, and enjoy all the nice things in life. It must suck to be me :)) I can't even properly hate anyone :)

I know I will get flamed for saying this, but this is my PERSONAL opinion and experience.

I tried Lotro at release, and was bored within the first hour. I did not play any further, or subscribe because to ME personally if a game isn't fun at level one then its only going to go downhill from there. The way I look at it is that the early levels in most games are the most care free and fun with the later levels becoming more of a grind. So basically in my experience if a game doesn't grab you from minute one then it isn't going to at all.

None of this "Just wait till level x" works for me because a paying customer should have to wait for anything.

Again, just my opinion.

Anyways, I agree with one of the other responses, based on what you said in your OP I suggest giving the DDO 10 day trial a go. It's super group dependant, and group friendly. Most of the people that play are really nice, and helpful, and the quests are all really diverse and fun.
