So there is a very good chance I will be recieving a PS3 as a gift soon, and I was looking for some info on the system, preferably unbiased.  Pros, cons, worthwhile games, etc.  Also does the online play have voice?  And keep in mind I already have a Wii.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I intend to live forever -- So far so good!

My buddy says that ps3 does indeed support voice communication.  To boot you can get a bluetooth headset so there's no wires

Last post before I leave.

Pro's:
- Most technical potential out of all 3 consoles

- Online Play is free

- Comes with Blu Ray player

- Online play does have voice, but you need to buy a Bluetooth headset for that

Con's:
- Most of the big games are being released in 2008 ~ 2009, so you'll have to wait a little bit

- Playstation online store does not have as much content as Xbox Live or Virtual Console

What games you might want to consider:

- Uncharted: Drake's fortunre

- Ratchet & Clank future: Tools of Destruction

- Resistance: Fall of Man

- Motorstorm

- Folklore

- Ridge Racer

- Ninja Gaiden Sigma

- Call of Duty 4

- Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas

- The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion

Looking forward to:
The Agency, DC Universe, Aion

PS3 is a monster of a machine.  the blue ray player is good if u love dvd's (i dont watch too many).  as for games Assassins creed is a must.  its bloody good.  GTA 4 is a must too when it comes out (next month).  as for other games it really depends on your taste.  like giant japanese robots beating the crap out of each other and using a years worth of ammo from a factory in the pacific in 1 fight then Armoured core or the Gundam games are for you.

i suggest (what i did) you go down to your local store(s) and look at all the game.  take a list of the ones that catch ur eye and research em.  i got a list of 10 (eliminated 5 quickly) and i deemed 5 games worthy of my purchasing a ps3 (did not include future releases which look awesome )

These systems are pretty much head to head but there are a few things that set them apart.

The ps3 uses 256 memory for both system and video for a total of 512. 360 has 512 of unified so it can use up to how much is needed. Unlike the ps3 if its not using all 256 of the video memory it cant sent the leftover to the main system memory.

10MB eDRAM on the 360 is so that it can use 4x AA and take no perfomance hit, ps3 dont.

Well the cell processor is basicly an p4 hyperthreaded  proccy on crack. All they did was just copy the logical processor more times. This confuses me since Intel stopped using hyperthreading when they started making Dual Core processors.

So I dont know why Sony  wanted to use hyperthreading but thats no what I would have done. The 360  has 3 symmetrical cores running at 3.2 GHz each and 2 hardware threads per core; 6 hardware threads total and 1 VMX-128 vector unit per core; 3 total

Blue Ray is nice since now its the winner of the format wars. but you will be able to buy an add on for the 360 soon.

But enough of the technical crap. It all comes down to which games you want to play. There are alot of games coming out for all systems. But Im am an Xbox guy but mine is having a hard time reading disks now  so that blows. I think It was from my roommate smoking cigarettes all the time.

But Im actually not that much of a console player I love PC games and Im going to be spending money on a new build to play Age of Conan. But We will never know exaclty which console is better hardware wise till we get to the limits of the 360 and see if the ps3 can play that game any better or vice versa. But other than that it will come down to personal preference on games u want to play.
