The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on. |

the new Jaffa look homorific. That's the general concensus form every SG1 fan I know. - CaesarsGhost Lead Gameplay and Gameworld Designer for a yet unnamed MMO Title. |

I hope to god thats the basic look and we get the true amours later, or this game will be blacklisted by most rather quckly, rule 1) when taking an IP even if it's your own don't mess with it, otherwise you lose a fanbase and just get players who aren't comiited to the product like you hoped. Bring on the WARRRRGGHH! |

Way to start screwing with the lore before the game's even really begun guys. Come on, if you can't even stick to the lore with even one of the PC races... gah. Yet another example of why liscenced IPs won't ever work- idiot developers who think they know more than the original creators AND the fan-base combined.

Originally posted by Arudanel I agree, althou there is many diffrent types of Jaffa,( depending on which overlord enslaved them) it still don't give the developers the right to screw with the story lore just to make work easier on themselves. The Jaffa are made up of diffrent human races, they all do not look like 300 spartans! there is nuth'n wrong with a few of the greek type Jaffa, but please not all of them! |

I don't understand what is wrong with the new look as some peoples are complaining.
Aren't 99% of the Jaffa looking backward, kinda egyptians/greek/ancient china. I mean, their technology is that way...they don't value some artistic change as in textile evolution, since from a snake point of view...this isn't important.
I am not the most hardcore fan...but I watch most episodes...and I don't recall 1 Jaffa looking modern. When you complains about something, make sure it is important, they have limited ressources and efforts...and if they rework on details, it means something else won't get that work.
I think the new look are cool and if they add more later on, will be even better...but...I hardly see any reason to scream...everything fit perfectly with the IP so far... - "If I understand you well, you are telling me until next time. Like it was said before... this has got to be the basic, armor-less look... We should be able to wear the helmet from the deity we serve and get some decent armor... |

Well this is why using IPs is difficult, you will never satisfy the fans ( I mean lore nazis). The fans who think developing an MMO is cheap and easy, so everything that is like the way it is in the show, game, novels, etc.. should be exactly the same in the MMO.
People fail to realise that this is a game first and stargate world second. If this is the way the developers have chosen to go to help ease the burden for them so they can concentrate on other more important things, such as gameplay then its a decision that has to be made.
As for people whining about the armor, learn to read before whining, the concept art says male jaffa BASE. Meaning that its just the base model, it is not showing off armor or any of the other stuff, just what the base character model will look like. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. |

All of you need to quit crying, and to the comments of "every SG1 fan I ask say this looks gay" need to be quiet. This is NOT the consensus of the general fan. From seeing the new concept art that they are going to closely render the new models by. A LOT of us talking on vent about it currently like the new look. The reason being is that they *actually* look like the Jaffa from the series.
Also, it's obvious these are the "basic" no armored models. They are OF COURSE going to have armor to wear etc. However, I feel they need to rework the Jaffa stave weapons into longer and sleeker versions.

They look fine... for starting characters. |

I don't think they look that great really.
I might not be as much a SG buff as I am a SW buff, but I do remember the Jaffa from the series... And they didn't look like some truckwide steroid head Hulk Hogan... They were tall, short, brown, white, ugly, handsome... Just a tad bit more muscoulous than the average... Ya know, there's a reason T'ealc was the prime of his lord... He was the best, he was not the average Jaffa.
As for the "non criers" on this forum... well, to you guys, anything would look cool if it was in a game... But I'd prefer a game based on a IP to actually be built on the IP... Heck, I bet it would be cool to make a WW2 game, where you flew F-16's, fought zombies, Atlantians and every German soldier looked like a viking..... According to you guys

Homorific maybe ... but as a base, the characters look fine, and well the jaffa are meant to be big and massive, but on the tv show it wasn't possible, it would have been to costly and hard to do, so I think it is alright, also I would really like the see the female concept art... hubba hubba "cues cat calls"...

I'd rather they look like they are... normal people who have been put through intense training. Muscular is fine, but these guys are like walking steroids. But really... these are the very first drawings we've seen. Who's to say that they won't give players the option to change how big their Jaffa are? |

Originally posted by streea The main problem I have with these drawings is how huge the hands are. I also agree that they went a little overboard with the muscle mass. Not all of the Jaffa are First Prime material. Hopefully they will have options for the size of your Jaffa. |

It's been mentioned that the art direction for this game is stylised rather than realistic, so it shouldn't be a huge shock that certain features are accentuated in the models. In a MMO it's usually the case that you can recognise a class/race at a glance. This gives you a sense of identity - so you're not just a muscular Soldier but a badass Jaffa! Also, don't forget that the show had to make do with whatever actors were available, a game does not. I seem to recall that the Jaffa race were 'created' out of the most physical of human specimens and their whole life revolved around combat. They would have been bred to be the strongest. I think Sparta is a good historic comparison. |
